TWENTY YEARS AGO Items of Interest found in the DUCHESNE RECORD August 7, 1911 Who says the Uintah Basin is a dry country? Rain! Why, we have had nothing but rain for lo these many weeks. Some say the Strawberry Lake is at least partly responsible. One thing is certain, and that is that as water is taken out and the air made more moist the mountain storms will be invited down into the Basin far oftener than formerly. A few showed that there is some doubt about this town being able to win, yet the verdict was solid for a strong fight. A committee was elected by ballot consisting of five local men, whose duty it will be to study the matter carefully, even to the extent of recommending the permanent officers. The committee is as follows: D. M. Frost, president of the Commercial Club and Chairman of the Town Board, I. R. Tuttle, school teacher, J. D. Pierce, the real estate man, R. B. Croix, attorney and J. C. Bryant, in irrigation charge of government projects. LOCALS Wm. H. Fitzwater has been reappointed postmaster at Duchesne. A new post office building will soon be built by our enthusiastic postmaster and will be equipped with new furniture. Our city sure is musical. Four new pianos brought in the last two weeks for Chas. Brenyer, N. M, Keel. Lizzie Olsen and Chas. Lott. J. R. Wilson is a candidate for the lower house State legislature on the Democratic ticket this fall. Mrs. Hart expects to organize the Yeoman lodge by August 20th. By unanimous consent, the Town Board recommended that all citizens be prepared for fire by keeping a barrel filled with water on the premises. NEOLA It seems as though every other town has announced their fitness for the county seat of the new county but Neola, who will be satisfied with having a county commissioner from this portion of the county. While we think the locating of the county seat is an important question, we dont think it ought to be placed near the county line, nor do we think it ought to be placed in a bog hole to be skidded out some time in the future. Nor in a place where it would be necessary for officers to slide in or get a skate on. URIC trvm Ok'"1c jrjrssr? 4 T By Dr. J. L. Jones, State Miller in the office he held, a committee of Myton citizens went to Salt Lake last Saturday, and laia their troubles before the State Relief Committee, and the Attor-neGeneral. The meeting at which the new appointments were made was held shortly after, aim was held on the assumption that as the new mayor i nd several c his councilmen had failed to qua ify for their offices, they wei therefore vacant, and it wras th duty of the old council to fill them The accusations against Mr Miller seem to be mostly to the effect he is trying to run Myton as Mr. Miller wrants it run, and is neither considering the desires of the councilmen nor of the citizens. Most of the trouble, it seems, is a result of the way the Airport project was handled. Citizens feel that he was unjustified in having money spent on an airport, which is rather useless to Myton, and letting their main street remain strewn with cobble rocks. Present officers, as a result of Wednesday nights meeting are: Mayor, newly appointed, C. P.
