Show u DEATH OF MRS. STANFORD. Tho circumstances surrounding tho death of Mrs. Stanford, widow of tho lato Senator are both mysterious and pitiful. It was too bad the dear old woman died from tho effects of poison poi-son and every one is wondering who could bo vile enough to wish to causo her death. It appears thoro was an attempt to poison her onco beforo, but the quantity of strychnine administered admin-istered was too much for tho system and sho recovered. In this case tho drug appears to have been mixed with bl-carbonato of soda, bottled before be-fore sho left San Francisco for Honolulu, Hono-lulu, where sho died. Sho oponed tho bottle herself, according to tho testimony testi-mony of her fomalo companions. Mrs. Stanford was a philanthropist and had done much for tho school bearing her lato husband's name. Recently Re-cently sho became converted to the idea of spiritualism and intended to endow a chair of psychic research at tho university very soon. Her death will bo lamented by thousands thou-sands who knew her and among tho many students of Stanford university her passing will causo a great deal of grief. |
