Show o SENATOR TELLER ACTS. Gets After the Florence and Raven Mining Companies. Senator Toller, cf Colorado, has taken a hand in the matter of the big grabs of mineral lands by tho Florence Flor-ence and Raven Mining Companies, out on the Uintah reservation. He has Introduced a measure looking to tho restricting of tho amount of land to be taken by both companies. His ideas aro embodied in an amendment to the Indian appropriation bill and reads as follows: "Provided: That tho mining companies shall confine their locations, ns set forth In the act of May 27, 1892, to that portion of the Uintih reservation covered by their leaser with tho Indians and approved ap-proved bj- tho Interior Department, November ,'6 1898; and all claims located lo-cated shall bo comprised in locations made as per map filed with the secretary sec-retary of tho interior, and each location lo-cation shall comply with tho mining laws of tho United States. Provided, further: That all claims located by tho Raven company since November 2G, 1900, shall bo disposed of in such manner as shall be prescribed by the President in his proclamation to open tho reservation; and further provided: provid-ed: That tho Raven Mining company and tho Florence Mining company shall, within sixty days from tho passage pas-sage of this act, make their locations comply with tho mining laws of tho United Stato3 and file proper records with tho county recorder at Hcbor, Utah, and witli tho secretary of tho interior." If this amendment passes, and it doubtless will, that big claim of tho Florenco Mining company, containing about 30,000 acro3, will havo to bo cut down, nnd tho claims located during dur-ing the last four years will no doubt bo placed in such a condition that the honest minors of tho state can got their share of them. |
