Show I Pvivgeivtpertiiveivt political poiivter5 ( The so-called' "Taft-Liberal" ticket will not have the names of Taft electors at its head. I This was the decision handed down by the supreme court last . Wednesday. It means in substance that the American party had no right to take unto itself the power of naming men for office on its ticket who had declined to have their names used. It is a hard blow at the Americans for it is the cleanest repudia- tion of their methods that has occurred since that party started. Aim- ing as it docs for any point looking to its own nourishment, even at the expense of the feelings of the best people in the community, that Mr party has been justly rebuked. And the rebuke has hit hard. It has I shown the political manipulators of that party that they can go so far when it comes to jeopardizing men but that it must stop when it attempts to manipulate the imperial majesty of the law and of the nation- . . Ij It was but a cheap bid in the first place for the votes of the few unthinking people who have followed the flag that party has be- smirched. It was not done for the good of the so-called party, the good of its followers, nor the good of a city, county or state. Hoping by this underhanded method to catch a few uncertain votes from the Republicans; from those members of the Republican party who, see- ing the name Taft-Liberal would assume they were voting the ticket of their honest choice, the decision of the supreme court in uphold- ing the declination of the Taft electors, who refused to have their names on the hybrid ticket, has done more to place the American party in the place where it belongs than anything that has occurred in the state. . , The fact of the decision affecting the Americans themselves so pointedly, because of the fact that it was the Americans themselves who look the matter to the supreme court for a decision, should in- dicate to every follower of the old parties what a thin structure the Americans have erected. They have never sought to call themselves a party of standing or of repute. Created in hate and engendered in animosity, that party has sought at any and all times to build itself H "P at the expense of the disruption and even disgrace of the old parties. It has, in fact, gluttoncd upon the weak fancies of the weak members of the old parties, who, having fancied grievances, have, like the leaders of the American party, sought an avenue of escape for tIlc,r revenge; sought a medium where their animosity and hatred j would act as a recoil against the welfare of the old parties, the par-H par-H tics which have weathered the gale of honest politics, successes and even adverscs, for years and years. The American party has fostered within the breasts of weak members of the old parties feelings of animosity against men and against principles; it has aimed at all times at the segregation of parties, of a state, even if it could, the ruination of a nation. No high ideals have encouraged it in its aims, but, imbued with a spirit of hatred, it has gone on and on, playing upon the credulity of weak voters of a city, county and state, and parading under the ostensible purpose of a reform or purity party, has sought by every means within its power to break up parties, homes and even to cause individuals to hate themselves. It adopted for its emblem the most sacred ensign in the world to the citizens of the United States the American flag. Not be- cause it had any respect for the flag, but because it hoped that the flashing of the stars and stripes would suffice to furnish a patriotic motive to the unthinking, who, seeing it so freely used, would take it as an emblem of good for the people by the people, not seeing the underlying motive of hatred that caused the sacred emblem to be used as a secondary means to a base end. Mt H Thus that party has gone on and on, using every method it pos- sibly could use to jeopardize the old parties, both as to principle and to members. Having no principles of its own which is clearly indicated in its weak platform it must, of necessity, cloak its weak- ness under what it terms the weakness of the other parties. And in this particular way it has been merciless in its assaults on the Re- publican party. Not for principle, but for revenge. M And thus was engendered the so-called Taft-Liberal ticket, a Mi ticket carrying the names of the American party candidates, but which was headed with the names of the three Taft electors. The m purpose of the move was plain. Many voters, unacquainted with the H workings of the voting machine, in a hurry to cast a straight party vote as the majority of Republicans do seeing the name "Taft- Liberal" at the head of the ticket, would not stop to investigate fur- ther, but would ring up a straight vote, thus unwittingly casting a a vote for the American ticket, something such voter would not under any circumstances consider, yet a condition that the American party leaders had in mind when they thought out the beautiful scheme. But the supreme court knocked it in the head by citing straight law, and only in the fact of interpreting the law right was it able to give such a decision. The members of the American party know how to vote for Taft, or for any candidate on any national ticket. The leaders of that party wish, however, to blind the followers to the real condition of affairs, both as to candidates and principles. The best way they can do it is to confuse the members of the old parties and by masking their real purposes under ostensible aims of genuineness gather as many votes as they can, even though they are obtained by fraud and through misrepresentation. . Members cf the Republican and Democratic parties should not be misled or confused. There is but one course for the members of both the old parties to pursue in order to save the county from the grasp of a bunch of hybrid politicians, and that is by voting the Republican Re-publican ticket. The Republicans will elect their full county ticket if they stick together. There is no question about it. If, in addition, addi-tion, the Democrats, desiring to rebuke and administer a merited' thrashing upon the American party, pool interests and vote the Republican Re-publican ticket, victory is made doubly sure. The matter, summed in a nutshell, simply means that the American Ameri-can party must be rebuked, must be crushed. It must be made to understand that a fight waged against people, based purely on religion re-ligion is not an honest fight but a contest of deceit. And the only way to rebuke it is to give it such an overwhelming defeat at the polls November 4th that the honest members of the party can see where they stand, must be made to realize that there is only one thing for them to do and that is to come back into the old parties, and there work out their grievances, and not stand on the outside and give life and encouragement to a party created in spite and nourished in hatred.
