of 85 years following li a i weeks illness senility Sene lity was tho the caus baui of his death he having been in in rapidly failing health for the past s six x months montas lie ile was born bom at scotland july 1837 at the age of 3 years he be was taken from school by ibis his parents john dunn and jean stirling dunn and set to work as an 4 r p apprentice in the weaving trade which ajas was the occupation of his parents being ng handicapped handi han d through his inability to attend school this did not 1 hinder him for he acquired a wonderful stare of knowledge through private siu studying dying at the age of 17 years he became a convert to the church of jesus christ bf Latter iia day y saints ile he was baptized at dar Camp 1 e scotland and august william E shaw and conj I 1 t member mp C r of the churow the I 1 wa 4 Q g y shortly y aar after jolting joining the church ho he enlis enlisted d in the british army amy during the later part of the crimean war but did not iee see action atthe at the battle front due to the close of the war mr dunn immigrated to america in 1857 landing in new york and crosse crossed d the plains in 1859 settling in will willard ard city in 1863 he moved to tooele thoele and was married to mary madden ile he engaged himself in the dramatic plays and ances of pioneer days which was i presented in the c community 1 om and wa was s also a captain in one of the companies of our local militia which was hold held in rea readiness dinAs to be used against the indians he was very active in church work during the early history of too ile ele stake and up to the time of his death was a faithful member of the church ile he was ordained a high priest march 1897 at the death of mary madden dunn lie he was married to jean fraser who raised the family left by the first w wife ife ile he was married to jessie young in the early eighties les seven children being borruto this family four of whom survive ur vive the latter wife having proceeded him in death in 1910 at the ago ol 01 0 sixty years mr air dunn too took koyer oyer the properties of the tooele thoele transcript and established a reputation as a high class news paper man among his many associates in that line of activity retiring only from this work somo some three years ago when his physical condition made it impossible for him p 0 carry on the work ile he was affectionately known among the newspaper fraternity as uncle jimmy and was honored and revered by them because of his up tightness rightness in attitude and honesty in business dealings ile he was charitable to the extreme always ready and willing to give unto others that which he actually needed for himself As time goes on he will be given greater honor because of hi his s literary ability than he ever enjoyed during ids his life ile he yas ryas very unaa suring and many of his choicest literary gems are yet unpublished to 11 als world ire he completed a page history of his life only two epars apat ago which took a biar year to write this contains a great amount of interesting history as well as much personal information of value to the family an interesting account is given of his early life including his five trips across the plains by ox team in the past 25 years mr dunn has collected a very choice library which in size sine and rareness of some of the volumes has no equal for a private library ayr it is said west of the miss river it is the plans of the family to establish the library as a james dunn memorial library in this city for private use me too etael ile he is survived ur by his wife mrs jean dunn and the following sons bona and daughters mrs john al mckellar mrs 0 alvin orme miss martha dunn all of tooele thoele mrs airs S F Klin kimball ball and james if dunn of raymond albertn alberta canada archie Y dunn and alex F dunn of tooele thoele mrs airs W T manning of salt lake city and mrs airs L L bush of pocatello idaho also b by y 48 grand children and three great gr
