recognition and observance at gettysburg ettya burg ot of the fiftieth anniversary of the battle of 0 gettysburg to invite the cooperation of the tha congress a 0 the united states and of other states rud and commonwealths dennec denned the commissions duties and and made an appropriation on for preliminary expenses text of invitation to veterans Vet erana the invitation la Is as follows pennsylvania Byl vanla by its ita commission formally invites the congress of the united states and her bar ster states and commonwealths mon to accept this invitation from the commonwealth upon whose soil the battle of gettysburg was fought to share ebare la in this important anniversary niver sary and to help make it an event worthy of its historical significance and an occasion creditable and impressive to our great and united reunited re nation and likewise invites the tha cooperation and participation of the grand army ot of the republic and ot of the united confederate Conte veterans state will act as host pennsylvania she providing ill all entertainment at gettysburg during july 1 2 2 3 and 4 1913 tor for forty thousand honorably discharged veterans of the civil war and she and the national government together as provided by the act of at congress of august 26 1912 2912 by each paying for the war department with the totals total to create mud and maintain a great cs camp p around the battlefield tle field camp accommodations the amp some two hundred ind and contiguous acres starting about two hundred yards from the high water mark monument on the battlefield ind and lying to the southwest of the town and partly upon the scene of the first days fight consists of tents teats regularly bold ing twelve men each but now to hold but bat eight veterans each veteran being supplied with a separate cot the Pennsyl pennsylvania rania commission having charge of the order of 0 exercises during daring the celebration the physical control of the camp sad and grounds and the move movements meata of troops and marching bodies therein to be in charge of the secretary of 0 war under such auch officers as he may detail tor for that purpose free transportation to and F transportation pennsyl invitation being that to such honorably discharged Tet veterans erans of the civil war as come to gettysburg for or the above celebration either upon tree free transportation or at their own expense and present proper credentials proving them to be such veterans she will provide food shelter and entertainment during daring that period but she ehe furnishes tree free transportation to no one save only to her own vet erans or Tet veterans erans now resident within her borders and to them only under legislative direction which Is now pending in her gip general ueral assembly the national government furnishing no free transportation at all the trunk lino line ras passenger association in n whose territory gettysburg Is has granted a one and three fifths round trip excursion rate good going june 25 and returning to original starting point by july 15 a twenty day ticket good only on en same came route going and coming and costing two cents per mile but each state roust must make its own arrangements with the similar associations covering the territory from that state to pennsyl vanla the railroads at gettysburg refuse because of lack of room to park or charge they will retrace the marching steps of long streets streeta corps they will go to the place where meade had his head bead and to the place from which lee directed his southern forces la in battle it Is said that this contemplated has induced more interest among the old soldiers of the north and the south than any event which has happened since the day that the war closed there to Is today at gettysburg a great national park in which la Is included a cemetery where thousands of soldier dead are ara buried the united states government and the legislature la of pennsylvania worked together to make a park of the battlefield and to lo mark accurately every point in it which has historic interest it Is expected that much good will come from the reunion of the blue and the gray on
