Show irl beld Ill ream by vemon vernon ve mon W shields mr feinan W shields co tooele thoele county chronicle tooele thoele utah r dear sir regarding your article in t the he january 23 issue of the chronicle about the wildlife federation and the utah sportsmen s association I 1 would like to know from what source you obtained your informs tion that the wildlife federation is obligated to the state fish and i game commission A As a director in the tooele thoele coun ty wildlife federation I 1 was una ware of any such obligation ex capt that in accordance with the bylaws we are bound to work with any agency or association which is engaged in propagating preserve in and protecting fish game and wild I 1 fe I 1 feel that the comparison of the two organizations as given in your article tends to show the wildlife federation in an unfavorable light due to the fact that many people will undoubtedly come to the con clus aclus on that it is subject to dom by a state agency which is certainly not the case in fairness to the wildlife feder lation lation I 1 feel that you should re tract your a statement that they are obligated in various ways to the fish and game department i very truly yours orville M thank you very much for your letter mr and please ac capt my congratulations for fox stick ing up for your organization I 1 like your attitude regarding domination by any state agency or pol group however I 1 will not retract my statement because I 1 am prepared to defend any statement I 1 make in this column al though in this particular incident to express myself in defense of that statement might cause ill feel ings between the wildlife federa pedera tion and the utah Sports sportsmen mens s As this I 1 do not want to do I 1 would like to see the two or work in harmony with one another A great deal more good will come from working to gether than from bickering with one another I 1 meant to cast no reflections on the wildlife federa tion I 1 have in the past through this column tossed several bou to your organization and I 1 shall continue to do so whenever your accomplishments are brought to my attention I 1 am fighting for better hunting and fishing con editions in utah and any dionor person is invited to take part in the discussion of fish and game problems through this col dmn yours or anyone else s ariti cism or advice is appreciated this week the state launches its crow and magpie derby one lot of these banded crows will be worth five hundred and fifty dol lars in cash and merchandise prizes according to boss ross leonard derby director other banded birds will be worth one hundred dollars sev enty five dollars fifty dollars twenty five dollars along with ten dollar crows magpies will come in for five and ana ten dollar prizes all of this in addition to the bounty being paid of ten cents tor for a pair of feet from both crows and mag pies and five cents each for eggs of either bird this bounty will be paid only in the counties where the local sports sportsmen mens s groups are par in the program hunting of crows and magpies during this campaign will be limited to shot guns only the contest will run through december thirty first 1948 it is hoped to have enough birds trapped and banded for the re within ten days the game chief said stid fourteen more wyoming ante lope have been transplanted on the utah ranges according to ross leonard state game director the fourteen animals including four mature bucks and several mature does were taken to resell rosell flats in box elder county where they were released the planting was done in an area where several small herds have been located these herds to talling nine animals are all does and because of lack of bucks have been unable to increase mr leon ard said the antelope were caught on the bell ranch near laramie where only is last t week the state of utah received 21 animals from the wy oming game commission this brings the total to 35 animals tran splinted ted in box elder county from the wyoming sag elands the wyoming commission has loaned the utah big game leaders the trapping nets and fences used on the wyoming campaign these nets according to mr leonard will be used in daggett county where utah trapping will take place with in the next 30 days it is hoped to take about animals from the glades area of daggett county for stocking on the western range A survey of the glade area will be made sometime within the next 10 days the game chief pointed out it is possible that the congest ed condition in the glades region has forced the ante antelope lobe over to clay basin or browns park the glades trapping will have to be conducted during the heavy freeze up mr leonard said the road into the glades is drifted in and the only means of getting trucks into the region to bring out the game is across the river ice on the green river if this ice is thaw mg ing the state will be blocked in its efforts to remove these ante lope |
