Show itta etta whitehouse continued from last week lived in oakley idaho when she was thirteen years old she went to oakley idaho to live with her older sister mrs an me dayley and mrs clara dahl quist she lived there two years and used to go to dances and often dance all night when her brother alfred married he took her back to grantsville Grants ville with him where she went to work for an elderly couple by the name of burton she took charge of the housework for which she received one dollar per week she met her future husband while there jeremiah warr whitehouse or bob as he was called she then went back to oakley idaho for one year corresponding with mr whitehouse during this time and his letters always contained a poem to her this is one of the last ones he sent to her while there you must get married and live at your aas get a good husband and do as you please they became engaged and he sent her the ring which she is still wearing after sixty three years married in 1885 mr whitehouse went to oakley idaho with a friend in september 1885 and they brought etta back to grantsville Grants ville with them in a cov ered wagon they were married september 29 1885 in the home of jeremiah law whitehouse by bish op moses martin of the lake view ward they lived in lake view for three months and then moved to tooele thoele where they resided for one year at the end of that time they moved back to lake view and homesteaded acres aces of land here they built a one room log home with a dirt roof and in this little log room there children were born parley pearl and persie when the fourth child frances was bom born they added another room and new furniture mr whitehouse buys land in tooele thoele in 1895 mr whitehouse burch ased 40 acres of land from edward eckman with good water rights and located on a hill east of the middle part of town still keeping the dry farm which they had homesteaded on the old land they raised grain alfalfa and corn while on the new location they planted a fine orchard and also raised gram grain and oats six more children were born there in 1905 a fine new brick home with eight rooms was built by henry goss and charles newton of salt lake city A house warm ing was held and almost all of the townspeople were invited to attend etta whitehouse has been very active in church work she served as secretary in the primary assoni atlon when she was fifteen years of age and also taught in sunday school she corned joined the relief so biety and was active for over fit ty years and was the relief so biety president for six and one half years during world war I 1 she and her husband went through the salt lake temple on june 6 1893 and were sealed for time and eternity she has been active in temple work for the dead and also has been a member of the daughters of utah pioneers in too ele county since it was first or at present she is a mem her ber of the sand lily camp celebrated golden wedding she has one all her own sewing for her children as well as making many beautiful pieces of crochet work embroidery work and quilts for her children grandchildren and friends mrs whitehouse always looked forward with pleasure to her gold en wedding day which was a big celebration on september 29 1935 she and mr whitehouse lived to gether fifty seven years the fol lowing poem was dedicated to mr and Mrs on their gold en wedding date by pearl white house bowen TWO HEARTS OF or GOLD we children cant remember but it was in september when two lovers met in the old whitehouse parlor and said well we 11 get married you bet we are happy today that it turned out this way so let us all sing and be happy and gay we have all met together let no man separate us under on this golden wedding ray dearest father and mother true how grateful we all are for you the long nights you watched 0 er our crib and many things for us you did father you tilled the soil for our bread while mother washed hard with a pain in her head for these we thank you this pretty autumn day your hair was once bright but its now turning gray may these two hearts of gold go on with success untold As they travel on through life with most of their days passed with strife we wish them not on only ly success but best of health and happiness from the ones they love he here re on this earth and arid those to whom they gave birth let act this be our happy lot making this their home the dearest spot the property in lincoln was sold to the international smelter and on june 6 1940 the family moved to tooele thoele into a modern brick home located at north 1st E street mr whitehouse passed a way two years later december 28 1942 mrs whitehouse still lives in this home descendants listed six of her ten children are still living and are as follows mrs pearl bowen mrs persie delamare mr stanley whitehouse and mr chester whitehouse all of too ele mrs christena hammond of salt lake city and mrs frances royle fresno california mrs whitehouse had twenty four grand children twelve boys and 12 girls and ten great great grandchildren ildren she is still in good health and able to take care of herself and her home on january 1 1948 her birthday 24 children and grandchildren met at her home to celebrate the occasion A lovely birthday cake in gold and white adorned the center of a long beau arranged table with hand crocheted center piece made by mrs whitehouse she received tele grams and telephone calls greet ings and gifts from family mem bers and friends who were unable to attend |
