Show OTAR STATE EXTENSION I 1 M SERVICE HOME HE ECONOMICS 7 41 I 1 I 1 I 1 U S dept of agri utah state agri C lege and county oo ng A E smith county agent in an effort to provide an extra million bushels of grain to the starving countries of europe the following ten points have been pre pared by officials of the U S de apartment part ment of agriculture and ac cepter by state and county corn com as a means of conserving I 1 gram grain and food products 1 control rats mice and spar rows tows large amounts ol grain and other foods are destroyed each year by these pests 2 have good storage facilities for your feed keep granaries barns and bins in good repair to prevent waste 3 control predatory animals 4 control insects in feed 5 control insects parasites and diseases among your livestock and poultry 6 feed well balanced rations 7 avoid careless feeding tices cices 8 provide livestock and poultry with good living conditions 9 cull but do not make blanket reductions of poultry or livestock in your flocks or herds 10 talk to your county agent a bout these feed conservation meas ures these points in addition to the idea of saving foods and grain stocks are just good management practices and should be put in op aeration on every farm where stuff and animals are handled hoisin for control of rats mice and sparrows is on hand at the county agents office basement of post office balding phone 20 for information and formulas be cautious about firera the onset of winter increases the fire hazard by more than 33 per cent winter means heated homes and other buildings before heavy winter firing is begun make sure that your stoves and other heat ing equipment are in good condi tion inspect your chimneys for cracks and obstructions and your furnaces for defects prepare a safe fireproof place in which to discard hot ashes farm fire losses this year have already amounted to nearly 90 million dollars and dozens of lives this is more than any country countr y can afford fire prevention on the farm is a first and important step but pre bention is only half the job for complete fire safety A f farmer armer should make all possible provisions to protect his farm it if he wants to keep it the first five minutes of a fire are the most important you can do more to control a fire in the first five minutes than in the next five hours have some som e equipment handy suca such as a good garden hose and plenty of water a number of good fire extinguish ers in strategic locations locati and a drum or two of dry sand take time to instruct the family and hired hands in the location and use of this fire fighting equipment for safety s sake BAUER WOMEN ORGANIZE HOMEMAKER S CLUB the women of bauer have organ iced a club for the purpose of studying the many problems of homemaking with the assistance of betty jeanne stone home demonstration agent this club will attempt to solve some of the problems of and hope to learn some of the finer points in food preparation tailoring clothing home furnishing and decoration and home management the first meeting was held nov ember 21 at the home of mrs M J kennard at which time christmas gift ideas were discussed friday december 5 christ christmas mas goodies will be the topic of a dem on to be given by miss stone the meeting will be held at mrs s at 1 30 p in m all bauer homemakers are invited to attend |
