Show grantsville GRANTS VILLE elsie green early last wednesday morning we had an electric storm with a lot of lightning and thunder one family had the unfortunate ex peri ence of having the lightning strike their home this was at the home of mrs ada sandburg the lightning struck the meter at a bout 2 30 that morning there was such a loud crash of thunder that the family was awakened donna orr heard something drop in the kitchen and went to see what it was As she was coming back to the bedroom she noticed a light under the living room door so she went to investigate when she opened the door she could see that the curtains and draperies were on fire she hastened to call the rest of the family mary was sent next door to tel ephone the fire department and donna and mrs sandberg began to remove clothing and valuables from the house mary came back and reported that the phones were out of order and suggested that they get the hose this suggestion was immediately acted upon and donna went through the back door and opened the front mary got the hose and came through the front door when donna opened it the wa water ter was turned on and the fire was soon out the lightning went through the house and blew out the radio the refrigerator and the electric stove it damaged the piano and burned most of the curtains and drapes the damage is estimated at be tween and mrs selma arbon entertained on september 17 on the occasion of her birthday many of her friends came and spent the afternoon with her she served supper to about 15 guests in the evening they played bunco and after all the guests were counted they amounted to about jabout 26 they all had a good time and wished mrs arbon many more happy birthdays mrs J R redden of frankfort kentucky arrived by plane mon day night in salt lake city and is visiting here with her parents mr and mrs ernest crook of lake point and friends mr and mrs glenn lenn S nelson and family |
