Show Second Place Vikings Lose a Close Game to Third Place Jordan yards. The Beetdiggers ran 69 plays to the Vikings 55 plays. The Vikings seemed to have a problem getting excited about the game. The Captains tried to get the players pumped, but there was no emotion or drive displayed. Maybe, if there is a game to ignore or not care about, maybe this was that game. We are still ranked in second place in Region 4 along with Alta High with a 2-1 record in region games, Jordan is. in third, Brighton and AF in fourth and Hillcrest on the bottom. Our last three games will not be easy. Brighton High is coming to Pleasant Grove for Homecoming this week. According to statistics, they are beatable. We play Lone Peak here on the 13th, they are ranked 1 in Region 4 and will probably show a 5-0 region record when they come to play. Alta is our last regular season game on October 22 and they are always a tough team to play. The games from here on will not be anything to ignore. This part of the season is where Pleasant Grove will have the opportunity to strap it up and play the way we all know they can or shrink back and join the ranks of teams no one remembers. Either way, we all need to get out and enjoy an evening supporting and helping to boost the Vikings drive to perfection. (And buy a hot dog or two!) Besides, you never know who you might see there and do some reminiscing of your own! by Kent Allen The drive both to and from the Viking's game at Jordan High School this last week was very enjoyable due to the company that shared the ride. The football team's stats recorder, Dell Young, traveled with me sharing stories and updating each other about family activities made the commute almost bearable. With all the construction and traffic jams, travel time to anywhere needs to be a main consideration no matter your destination. Anyway, we arrived in time for the game and returned home safely. Not so with the football team. In fact, I'm still not sure they even showed up. Just like tne American Fork and West Jordan games, the Vikings spotted the "Diggers" 10 points before PG started playing. I'm not sure I like that strategy. The Vikings played catch up football all night. The surprise is that they were looking like they were on their way to scoring the winning touchdown when an errant handoff went askew and Jordan recovered. They ran out the final 48 eight seconds and won the game , final score 27-2 1 . It's a respectable score, but from where I can see the game, the Beetdiggers are not that good. In fact, they are very beatable. This year they are not a quality team. Jordan ran the ball 37 times for 172 yards and passed 17 out of 32 times for 221 yards for a total yardage of 393 yards. The Vikings ran 38 times for 126 yards and passed 10 of 17 for 130 yards for a total of 256 -' i v .... - 7V' .' .& , .,. . The Viking defensive line held tough right up until the end, unfortunately for PG, the team fell short of a victory against Jordan High. Photo courtesy of PicMyKid.com |
