Show California Visitor Dies On Canyonlands Tour A death marred the excursion ex-cursion of a group of Calif-ornians Calif-ornians visiting Angel Arch last Friday. . Mr. Joseph Ogden Schultz (71) of Yucaipa, California died of heart attack Friday afternoon beneath remote Angel Arch in Canyonlands National Park. Schultz and his wife Ora were on a bus tour organized organiz-ed by Holiday Tours of Red-lands, Red-lands, Calif. 30 others under un-der the leadership of Mrt-. Betty Wheeler and Mrs. Betty Bet-ty Workman had contracted for a jeep tour of Canyonlands Canyon-lands with Tag-A-Long Tours of Moab. The six-vehicle caravan had traveled the 15 miles into rugged Salt Creek in the Needles Section of the National Na-tional Fark. They had arrived at the end of the jeep track beneath be-neath Angel Arch at 3:15 Friday. Schultz had started up the trail and was still in level terrain about 100 feet from the vehicle when he turned arcund and camp back, lie rejoinrd his wife in the vehicle ve-hicle saying he felt cold. The heart attack then hit him and h- died suddenly. The party started immediately immed-iately for Moab but it tor.k four hours to got back from the isolated canyon. A blowout blow-out occurred on the vehicle which was carrying Mr. Schultz which delayed the caravan a short time. Dr. J. P. Munsey pronounced pro-nounced Schultz dead on arrival ar-rival at Allen Memorial Hospital. Schultz' body was taken to Grand Valley Mortuary in Moab. lie had requested cremation which will be done this week in Grand Junction. |
