Show a proposal worth merit Mayor Winford Bunco and a number of Moab bus;nes and professional people, after having attended numerous 7 regional meetings on economic development, are convinced r that we in this county and city need to do considerably more than we are presently doing to see that the interests of Moab ?nd Grand Crun'y are pr-Mve'v attended by a professional person, with respect to federal and regional programs, long range plarr.irg. industrial promotion and other endeavors closely related to the above. The Mayer is soon going to propose th? creation of ?n official position in the City and County, to be funded bas;c-illy bas;c-illy with tax monies, to fill the above need, and even though it may cost a little money, the chances for good return on investment seem to us too good to pass up. The business of p'anning economic and phvsical development develop-ment in cit'es and counties is complex, involving not only the working out of local details, but understanding and dea'-ing dea'-ing wi'h arplicatiors fcr ass:stance from a multitude of agencies now in existence to assist cities and counties along these lines. And the business has become, also, quite competitive. Mayor Euner says that with surrounding counties having already al-ready pntrrrd into such programs, Grand County is being 1. ft far behind not because we do not have p"op!e hr.a qualified to deal with the problem but simply bncause most qualified people here are already so involved in their own personal and business endeavors that they are not able, on a volunteer basis, to devote the time ncssary to community com-munity economic development to keep up wilh our aggressive ne;ghbors. Alhri'h details of the prorasal have not yet been entirely en-tirely workf.'l out. we apnlaud the thought. It. is time that we here begin actively seeking belter conditions in the future even if it costs us a little money. |
