Show Utah State Officials in Moab To Study Model School Idea By. Jim Jacobson, Professor Profes-sor of Educational Administration Admini-stration at Utah State University, Uni-versity, and a team of doctoral doc-toral candidates from that school are in Moab doing a study and gathering data concerning the school system sys-tem here. The team, which includes Don Cruz who is living here during the study, is studying study-ing this area with the idea of establishing a model school system here. This system, ideally, would provide pro-vide some program of education ed-ucation for everyone in the community from pre-school age through adulthood. At this time, the University Univer-sity team is working on a study of the enrollment, administration ad-ministration and management, manage-ment, financial aspects, facilities fa-cilities and transportation Of the school district. This and a curriculum study of the district are only part of the over-all plan which will, in the near future, involve contacts con-tacts with the citizens of the community. It . is hoped that with the aid of the citizens, programs may be established establish-ed that will be considered beneficial by the people themselves. Such groups as the aged, those on welfare and just ordinary housewives housewiv-es may eventually hope to gain from this program, according ac-cording to Dr. Jacobson. ; It was emphasized that although al-though the center for continuing con-tinuing education that was established here this fall is part of the program, it will . by no means be the entire program. They plan also to make use of the new vocational voca-tional education program as well as the schools themselves. them-selves. Since programs of this type are quite unusual, a success in the Moab area could mean a boost to tin economy through popularity as a place to retire and for retraining of perpie inter-, ested in gaining a new skill: The men doing the study hope to have it completed by the first of July, 1970, and will make a report on their findings as to the feasibility of the community education program. |
