Show NPS, TWA Services Agree To Extend Use of Facilities The National Park Service and TWA Services, Inc. have signed an amendment to a contract that will extend the use of overnight guest cabins at both Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Utah, through December 31, 1982. Under terms of the previous contract, lodging facilities at Zion National Park were to be phased out last year and those at Bryce Canyon at the end of 1977. The amendment, said Lynn H. Thompson, Regional . Director Di-rector of the NPS' Rocky Mountain Region in Denver, requires TWA Services to rehabilitate the guest cabins and employee quarters in both Zion and Bryce Canyon at a cost of not more than $200,000 and $30,000, respectively. The concessioner will begin the rehabilitation effort within one month and complete the project by May of 1977. TWA Services also provides lodging at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and other visitor services in all three parks under the original contract that also expires at the end of 1982. James J. Dillon, President of TWA services, Inc., Chicago, Chica-go, and Thompson signed the contract amendment. The amendment follows a series of public meetings held earlier by the NPS on this issue. Following those meetings meet-ings and other meetings with Utah Governor Calvin L. Rampton and members of the State's Congressional delegation, delega-tion, the NPS made the decision to extend the use of in-park visitor services to allow time for development of adequate visitor accommodations accommo-dations in communities near the parks, Thompson said. |
