Show ' A Letter from Pearl lona and Barbara... By Pearl Baker Family Visits... Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wilcox had most of their family home for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. H.S. VVimberly and five children came from Paducah, Ky., Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hardman and children from Price and Gary and Brandy all sat down to Sunday dinner at the home place. The Wimberlys have been here for two weeks, and will leave soon, taking Pearl Wilcox to Kentucky for a vacation. New Store Opens... Lil's Fabrics is opening a new outlet in Green River. Fabrics and sewing accessories acces-sories will be stocked. For the present, the shop will be at the home of Mrs. Jeanne Anderson Ander-son on Long Street. There will be a grand opening sale on Fridav and Saturday, June 20 and 21. Script About Finished... Jack MacDonald called on Monday, saying that the script for the Green River Bicentennial Bicenten-nial movie is almost finished. Some of the footage has been shot, and the remainder will probably be picked up around Melon Days. The film touches upon history, geology, Indian occupation, oc-cupation, Spanish caravans, trappers explorations, and the Powell Expeditions. Later history his-tory of settlement recounts briefly the period from the coming of the railroad to the Missile Base. With the river and the important crossing here the basic theme, transportation becomes the cohesive thread that runs throughout the film. Music, both background and featured, will be furnished by Windsinger Gary Smith, which will add a whole new dimension dimen-sion of beauty to the production. produc-tion. The movie cannot be shown until Janurary 1, 1976, but it will be used during the Bicentennial Bicen-tennial year to celebrate the colorful background to predict the promising future of this entire area. Travel Council Meets... Vail Hart and A.C. Ekker drove to Price Monday evening even-ing to attend a Travel Council meeting. Ekker, who is president presi-dent of the Council reports that they talked mostly about budget for 1975-76. It has been decided to put out three brochures, a new color brochure bro-chure for Castle Country, a Fact Book and a flyer pointing out what can be seen in one day, do-it-yourself, in the area. Back From Hospital... Joshua (Slim) Nielson came home from the Moab hospital on Saturday, and is a bit improved. While he was ill, Mrs. Wayne Hampton came up from Farmington to spend a couple of days with Ruth and make traveling back and forth . to Moab a bit easier. Mrs. Elvin Jackson and two babies came down Saturday from Sandy, and returned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Hampton Hamp-ton stopped in overnight, then went on to spent a part of their vacation in Logan and Salt Lake City, and will visit again on their way back home to Farmington. Church Picnic... I overlooked this note last week, but it is important, and so a week late I'd like to report that the local Episcopalian group enjoyed a picnic with Father and Mrs. Hampton, and Molly.- After sen-ices at St. Michael's Mi-chael's Church, the congregation congrega-tion adjourned to the City Park for a social and picnic. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. M. Rosie. Mr. and Mrs. Jim . Banasky, Mr. and Mrs. William Cline. Miss Debbie May and Mrs. Beverly Ekker and Shawn and Janie. Attends Graduation... Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burnett left Monday to attend Carolyn's Caro-lyn's graduation from USU at Logan. She received her degree in Art. While on the trip the Burnetts visited Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coulson and family at Preston, Idaho and the CD. Alexander family and Garth Burnett at Salt Lake City. Campfire Trails and Tales... Canyonlands Gift and Book Shop and the Overnighter Motel are cooperating to provide campfire circle entertainment enter-tainment three nights a week. Gathered around the fire, seated on logs, the participants partici-pants are treated to a different program each evening, with Thursday. Friday and Saturday Satur-day presentations each week. The program starts at 8:30 with a talk on the area, some Western Music or whatever of general interest can be obtained. obtain-ed. A movie is shown, and the entertainment ends with a weiner roast on the campfire coals. There is a charge of SI. 50 each person, which includes everything, even the weiner roast. Tentative program for the coming week is: Thursday, local history, with the CCRMA film. "Red Rocks and Rivers" shown. On Friday, river history and the Grand Canyon film will highlight the program, pro-gram, and Saturday night is Butch Cassidy time, with Outlaw Trails film. It is hoped to interest not only the tourists, but local people as well. If you have guests, this might be a fine way to tell them about Green River and southeastern Utah. Boy Scout Camp... A group of Boy Scouts f y -J enjoyed .a week's camporee at M; pledale Camp, near Pay-son, Pay-son, returning home this weekend. On the Excursion were Scouts Shawn Acerson, Duane Riches. Buff Price, Mike Evans. Chris Ramsay, Shane Dugdale. Ken Allen, Jerry Heath, Greg Hall and Jess Hunt. Mrs. Maxine Hall. Mrs. James Ramsay and Mr. Clark Riches took the boys to camp, and Mr. Ramsay and Charles Watterson went up after them. Scout Master Marvin John was in charge of the outing. Author Visits... Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Overholster stopped off on their way to the Western Writers of America convention at Carson City, Nevada. It was great to see them again, and to once again thank them for getting me started writing. Beta Zeta... Beta Zeta members Vicki Anderson and Judy Ann Scott recently returned from attending attend-ing the 22nd annual Utah State Convention of Epsilon Sigma Alpha which was held at Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The function was hosted by Alpha Lambda of Salt Lake City. Beta Zeta won many awards for their years work, they are as follows: 3rd place for the best educational programs; 1st place for donation of hours with 94.14 hours per member towards welfare and philanthropic; philan-thropic; 2nd place for their youth award; 1st place for their scrapbok; 3rd place for rush program; 1st place for travel award (attendance to all four state council meetings of year 19"4-"5); Gold Link Certificate for six or more educational reports in on time; and a certificate for participation participa-tion in ESA's Million Dollar Bike Ride for children of St. Jude's Hospital. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Scott's husbands joined them for the Saturday night dinner dance. Members from 23 chapters throughout the state attended the event and a most enjoyable time was had by all. The members are now making plans to attend the annua an-nua international convention which will be held in Portland. Oregon in July. |
