Show Santa Claus Parade Scheduled For Moab This Saturday Plans were finalized this week for the Christmas in Moab . activities . to be held during the month of December. Decem-ber. The festivities begin this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Santa Claus parade down Main Street. The parade will begin on Uranium Avenue, and continue down Main and end at the Courthouse where children from the elementary schools will help decorate the Community Christmas Tree located there. Lighting of Christmas decorations dec-orations which were installed last weekend by the Moab Jaycees will take place on December 4. Members of the Jaycees this week stated that they were aided in their project pro-ject by Utah Power & Light, Midland Telephone Company and Town TV, who supplied trucks ; to help install the lights., The workers were served lunch by the Jaycettes and a special thanks was gi ven to Allen t,. mocks, cod Ames, and Don Bailey who also helped in the work. More garlands for the intersections will be installed Saturday morning. The Jaycees were also responsible for obtain- Inrr nnA orolinff thp PflTTl- munity Christmas Tree on the Courthouse lawn. . Other events which will be taking place throughout the month will be a concert on Dec. 9 at Star Hall by Stan Bronson of Blanding, who has received wide acclaim for Children's Tender Apples Foundation. The Foundation is a non-sectarian, non-political, non-profit organization founded to aid homeless and , otherwise needy children. The i concert is being co-sponsor-i ed by the Foundation and the LDS Second Quorum of Eld- ers. It is open to the public and tickets are $1.50 for adults and $1.00 for children. The Grand - County High School music department will be presenting a Christmas concert cn Dec. 16, at Star Hall and on Dec. 21 and 22. there will be a presentation of the Nutcracker Suite by the ' schools. The Helen M. Knight Christmas program will be held this year on Dec. 21. "To aid Christmas shoppers, shop-pers, merchants in Moab will be remaining open until 8 p.m. on Dec. 10, Friday; Dec. 17, Friday; and on Dec. 20 through 23. Most stores have indicated that they will close early on Christmas eve. In addition to the longer store hours, most of the merchants will be open from 12 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12 and on Sunday, Dec. 19. There will be drawings for prizes to be given away at the various stores with tickets tick-ets available for free registration regis-tration beginning on Dec. 10. The prizes will be given away from Dec. 20 through 23. The lighting contests will be judged on Dec. 20, with prizes given for several different dif-ferent areas of competition. ' |
