Barbara Ekker Hanksville News Notes In the TRADEWINDS section of the Salt Lake Tribune Business Section was a report that Continental Con-tinental Gold and Silver Corp. of Salt Lake City, have announced acquisition acquisi-tion of placer gold mining min-ing properties in the Henry Hen-ry Mountain Mining District Dis-trict south of Hanksville. Mr. and Mrs. Ford Weber returned from a visit into Idaho with their daughter, Cheryle Avery and family and the Grant Tufts in Salt Lake. The occassion celebrated the Weber's 48th wedding anniversary an-niversary and Ford's birthday. They enjoyed a family gathering topped off with a football game while in Idaho. Installation of Officers of the Cedar City Chapter 20, Order of the East-em East-em Star will be held Nov. 24th at the Masonic Temple. Among the officers of-ficers to be installed is Mrs. Arthur (Gaye) Thurston, formerly of Green River and youngest young-est daughter of Arthur Ekker. Plans are underway to set up a Teen-Center in the Town Hall. Mrs. Au-drea Au-drea Ziekafoos is spearheading spear-heading the idea. Plans are to install a juke-box, game machines, record players, etc. to give the Hanksville youth a center. A Vanda Beauty party was held at the Carolyn Hatch home Wednesday evening with Mrs. Ann Fredly as the Vanda re-presenative. re-presenative. Quite a number num-ber of young ladies were in attendance. Mrs. Wynonna Mulford and Mrs. Berl Okerlund attended funeral services in Moab Saturday for Eben Scarf. Albert Lyman, author, historian, San Juan County Coun-ty pioneer, passed away Tuesday at the age of 93. He authored such books as "The Trail Of The Ancients", An-cients", "Man to Man", "The Outlaw of Navajo Mountain", '"Indians and Outlaws", "The Edge Of the Cedars", ' and the "Great Adventure". Albert Al-bert was just a baby when his parents settled in the San Juan area having blazed the Hole In the Wall trail with other hearty pioneers. Funeral services were held in Blanding. Mrs. Bertha Robison and Mrs. Sylvia Ekker visited vi-sited in Payson last week with the Hale Robisons, Ernest Ew ells and the Roy Ekkers. Hanksville students at Wayne High who were selected se-lected to on the wrestling wrestl-ing team for the coming vear are Keven Robison, La Mont Ekker, Jeff Cas-ner, Cas-ner, Jerry Sanstead, Rus-seoll Rus-seoll Caldwell, and Dale Johnson. La Mont frac tured his wrist in last weeks try-outs. The Hanksville Ward Relief Society have new officers. President Mrs. Clella Ekker retained her position but Mrs. Faye Holt and Mrs. Charlene Shirley are her councilors. counci-lors. Mrs. Shirley Jackson Jack-son of Cainsville was a former councilor. Mrs. Marilyn Seller is the President of the Primary Pri-mary Association with Mrs. Ranae Albrecht and Mrs. Jill Jackson as councilors. Teachers in the organization are Mrs. Bessie Stewart, Mrs. Laura John, and Mrs. Charlene Shirley. Secre-. tary is Mrs. Jan Hunt. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Miller Mil-ler and two children have been visiting her parents, and his sister from their new home in Montana. Mr. De Forest Smouse of Draper has been in the i San Juan area visiting his ! in - laws and evaulating mining properties for the State of Utah. Senior students from .Hanksville attended a seminar se-minar in Salina Friday where they were made ac- quainted w ith the colleges in the area and preper-ations preper-ations they'd have to make before making application to enter.
