Show I mrnwnrmm rr "n rnimrininnrMir A few Scouting activities have gone on through the summer months even though your reporter took a vacation from the news. Diane Norma and Else Daniels, of Junior Troop 617, have really kept busy working with a 3-day campout at Camp Williams which was sponsored by Utah Girl Scout Council as a 1 Bicentennial Campout. The girls are pictured in their ' hand-painted T-shirts with Delicate Arch featured, after a-session a-session visiting with and learning from the "Mountain Men." This same troop traveled to Salt Lake City for a 3-day trip, compliments of the driving of Shirley Phillips, LaRay Byers, Teresa. Posey, Diane Norman and Richard McCandless. The group visited museums. Tern- : pie Square, Lagoon and the highlight of the trip was a visit with the Governor in the Gold Room of the Capital. They will finish up their summer with a weekend train ride on the narrow gauge railroad in Durango this coming weekend. week-end. Brownie Troop 329, under the leadership of Margaret Webb, received a certificate from the American National Red Cross in grateful appreciation apprec-iation for assistance to the victims of the Teton Dam break. Margaret's troop, during dur-ing the winter months and as a service project, made and supplied friendship boxes to be used by the Red Cross in disaster areas for children. These boxes were equipped with pencils, paper, crayons, soap and toys. There were 75 girls of all ages attending three days of core camping in Arches Nation Park, with Margaret Webb as camp director. The "Spirit of '76" camp worked on tie dying, quilling, hiked to the Fiery Furnace and participated in a Jungle Breakfast. For you non-Scouters who have never had the fun of a Jungle Breakfast, it's all set up to learn how to use a compass and if you don't work at it you don't find your breakfast! In the past week the service team met to set up the schedules for the coming year. Monday a Neighborhood meeting mee-ting was held for new leaders to get acquainted, and next Monday information sheets will be sent home from the schools to parents telling them about the time and place for school meetings to get troops organized. It is very important that one or the other parent or a responsible adult come to these school meetings when the girls sign up for Scouts. We will have a complete list of all troops and meeting places the second week in September. Our area is in need of adult volunteers and if you would like to help with any of the troops please call Margaret Webb at 259-5257. Margaret is our troop organizer this year and is doing a good job of getting troops going, but it 'seems we always need a few more helpers. Even though you might not have time to be a leader, maybe you could help our on occasional hikes or badge sessions. |
