Show Uqm Drilling Scheduled In Utah's Oil Fields A 10,000 foot test of the Wasatch formation just west of the town of Lapoint and south of Tridell, Uintah County, will be drilled by Flying Diamond Oil. The well, the NO. 1-16 Ute-Tribal is about a mile north of oil production in the Roosevelt field where the Green River formation produces pro-duces at a depth of 9,300 feet. Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, spec-ialist, Utah Geological & Mineral Survey, notes that the Flying Diamond location is about three quarters of a mile east of a 9,995 foot abanoned well where tests were conducted con-ducted at depths of 9,900 feet, recovering oil and mud. The well was abandoned after testing proved the well to be non-commercial. In 1975, a Wasatch formation discovery well, two miles to the northwest of the Flying Diamond Dia-mond location, pumped 71 barrels of oil daily. The area is approximately 18 miles west of Vernal. In other oil and gas drilling activity around the state Mr. Stowe says that Chevron Oil is continuing tests at a Bluebell field well, the No. 3-18-A1 State. Last gauge was a flow of 895 barrels of oil per day from 13,330 feet. Chevron is waiting on completion equipment at another well in the vicinity. Gulf Energy & Minerals drilled to 16,555 feet, total depth at the No. Gray Knoll-Federal in Buck Canyon field about 25 miles southeast of Ouray. They are also waiting on equipment for additional work. In Sanpete County, Hanson Oil is drilling below 6,600 feet at the No. 1-A in the Moroni area. It is a deep test, scheduled to some 20,000 feet. The Hughes Tool and Independent Association of Drilling Contractors report active drill rigs working in Utah dropped to 10 this week. ..a low for the year in the State notes Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, Utah Geological Geo-logical & Mineral Survey. The figure compares with 27 active drill rigs working at this time a year ago. Mr. Stowe notes the Petroleum Petrol-eum Information Corporations Corpora-tions statistical section reports re-ports a total of 78 wells drilled in Utah to date, for this year. Last year at this time, 123 wells were drilled. Of the 78 wells drilled in Utah this year only 27 were classed as exploratory wells (wildcats, more than a mile away from any established production.) Of the 10 rigs drilling wells in Utah currently, all are being closely watched by the oil and gas industry since, for the most part, they are very significant. signif-icant. Wells being drilled in Summit Co. if successful, could easily cause a flury of drilling activity in this part of Ut. A deep scheduled test on the outskirts of Coalville, is some 12-15 miles W. of the Pineview oil field. The Coalville Coal-ville area wildcat is scheduled to at least 16,500 ft. and is being drilled without release of any information. In Pine-view Pine-view field, three wells are drilling and in the northeastern northeast-ern area of Summit County, the deepest well drilled in the State is at a depth of 21,786 feet. Near Moroni, the Hanson Oil Company's No. 1-A is drilling at a depth of 6,800 feet. It is scheduled to at least 20,000 feet. In Duchesne County, the Altamont field production is holding steady at just over 592,000 barrels of oil montly while the Bluebell field is at 784,000 barrels per month. Some 265 wells are on production. The Great Aneth field, San Juan County, is producing 670,000 barrels monthly from 430 wells and Uintah County's Red Wash field is at 184,000 barrels per month. |
