Show Owner, Glenn lsaxti-i- (right) and pilot Dennis Hockman (left) look over rew supplies for air ambulance. Green River gains certified air ambulance By Pearl Baker After several months of negotiation and great deal of cooperation among those interested, Green River is now served by a Certified Air Ambulance. While there are certified ambulance planes in other towns, this is the only certified air ambulance in the southern part of the state. Agencies and people peo-ple involved in this effort were the Green River Fire Department Ambulance Service, Redtail Aviation, Family Nurse Practitioner Sue Alien, Dr. Jerry Peters, Park Service employees em-ployees from Lake Powell and the Utah State Department De-partment of Health. In May, this group met for a special session on the difference in care of patients in flight rather . than being transported in a motor ambulance. Dr. Peters, who had set up certified ambulance service serv-ice in Grand Junction, came to teach the class. The course was excellent, lasted about four hours, and was topped off by a steak dinner arranged by Mr. Hazel Woodworth, who is an EMT technician. On June 7, Mr. Delbert Sperry from the Utah State Department of. Health, Division of Emergency Emer-gency Medical Services, came to Green River for the certification inspection. inspec-tion. Together with Glenn Baxter, owner of the airport and Pilot Dennis Hockman, who flies most of the Air Ambulance missions, they checked out the plane, Redtail Aviation's Cessna Turbo 206, and certification was completed. Nurse Practitioner Practi-tioner Sue Allen v.W fly most of the missions, but other EMTs have now been trained to serve if she is not able to go. Air ambulance service has been available for the last two years, but because be-cause of increase in numbers of people vacationing vaca-tioning at Lake Powell, a greater need for rapid transfer of patients has developed. In fact, the availability of a plane last summer saved one child's life at Hite. In the past two weeks, also, Redtail Aviation Avia-tion has answered the call from the Green River Clinic to transfer critical patients in the night from car wrecks on the highway to hospitals some distance away. Since this is one of the very few Certified Air Ambulances in the State of Utah, Redtail Aviation, Green River Ambulance EMTs, Nurse Practitioner Sue Allen and Dr. Peters, as well as Park personnel and Highway Patrolmen are extremely proud to offer its services to Green River and the sur.-ounding area. |
