Show More paving scheduled near Crescent Jet The Utah Department of Transportation Trans-portation Tuesday opened bids on a contract to resurface the 5.04 mile section of US-163 from its junction with 1-70 to Valley City Wash in Grand County. Corn Construction Company of Grand Junction, Colorado, submitted submit-ted the apparent low bid of $359,985 for the project. The official engineer's estimate was $338,904. The contract provides for a three-inch overlay on the existing pavement and includes replacing of delineators. Delineators are metal posts with reflector buttons that mark and define the edge of the roadway. The contractor has 50 working days to complete the project. The project abuts an earlier widening and resurfacing project between Valley City Wash and the Canyonlands airport. "Resurfacing of that eight-mile long project was just completed," said district design engineer Frank Ularich, "however, two bridges, one at Valley City Wash and one at Little Valley Wash, are still under construction, with short detours skirting the construction sites." Mr. Ularich said signs and flagpersons are guiding motorists through the bridge construction sites and similar precautions will be taken when the new resurfacing project gets under way. |
