Show Late Season Snows Push LoSals Over Ayerap The second snow survey of the year on the LaSal Mountains Moun-tains was taken March 25. by John Esplin of the Soil Conservation Menace and Ed Johnson of the Moab Ranger District, Manti-LaSal National Forest. Due to several sev-eral storms in the past month, both the snow depth and water content of the snow were above average. The lower course at 8.830 feot measured 41 inches of snow containing 11.6 inches of water. Tho water content is 133 per cent of the 15 year average, but somewhat be- h:nd readings for this time last year which showed 31 inches cf snow and 13.4 inches in-ches of water. The upper course at 9,430 feet showed 61 inches of snow with 18.4 inches of water. wa-ter. The water content on th's course is 116 per cent above average. One year ago there was 51 inches of snow and 23.1 inches of water. wa-ter. The upper course had showed an increase cf 5.1 inches in-ches of snow during the month since the last measurement. measure-ment. These surveys are the basis for determining how much water will be ava'lable for farms, industry, and cities during the ccmrg year. The next survey will be taken near the 25th of April. |
