Show Utah Vietnam Veterans are Out of Work Over 3.000 Utah Vietnam Viet-nam Veterans are unemployed unem-ployed and looking for work, claimed Manly B. Lincoln, manager of the Moab Fmployment Security Se-curity Office. At least, he said, this is the number num-ber of "Viet Vets" registered reg-istered with Employment Employ-ment Security Offices throughout the State. For some reason, Mr. Lincoln said, many Viet Vets are having a rough time finding suitable employment and it shouldn't be. As a group they represent an excellent excel-lent resource for Utah employers. Also, no matter how unpopular the Vietnam War was, these persons were stili serving their country and deserve special consideration. con-sideration. Mr. Lincoln said that Governor Rampton is concerned about the problem pro-blem and has officially declared April as "Hire a Veteran Month." In keeping with this theme the Governor's Veterans Employment Task Force is contacting by mail all employers in our area who hire 5 or more employees. They are being be-ing urged to give special consideration to hiring veterans. But Mr. Lincoln remarked, re-marked, most employers employ-ers in our area hire less than 5 employees and will not be contacted. ' None the less, he said, the message carried by the letter is for them also. The Task Force letter says in part: Over 3,000 "Viet Vets" are registered with Utah Employment Security Offices. Most of these veterans are high school graduates with marketable market-able skills. Others are good potential employees emplo-yees subsidized through on-the-job training programs. pro-grams. To give your job openings open-ings exposure to a large number of veterans I suggest that you listyour openings with your local Employment Security Office. Nothing less than a unified effort can result in the attainment of suitable suit-able employment for these individuals who have served so vailantly on behalf of their country. Mr. Lincoln said that as Manager of the Moab Employment Security Office he endorses the "Hire the Vet" program and pledges the full support sup-port of his office and staff to area employers. |
