Show SKIING CONTEST By Terry Hunt KTVX and Showbird ski resort will be holding the Utah High School Ski Challenge contest April 8 at Snowbird. A qualifying round - will begin at 10 a.m. for high school students stu-dents from grades 9-12. Finals will be held at 2 p.m. The contest will consist of 30-second giant slaloms on upper big Emma for qualification. Each contestant con-testant will be given a one-run-try. The 48 fastest fast-est skiers (24 male and 24 female) . will advance to the finals. The male and female groups will consist of the 12 fastest classified and 12 fastest recreational skiers. At 2 p.m. each of the finalists will be given 2 runs, with the best of the two efforts being recorded. record-ed. At 4 p.m. prize and trophy awarding festivities festivit-ies begin, with winners and runners-up receiving awards as follows: the first place winners in both male and female classified and recreational will receive re-ceive a $300 scholarship, trophy, and a Utah High School Ski Challenge patch; the second and third place finishers in male and female classified and recreational will receive re-ceive a trophy and a Utah High School Ski Challenge patch; and other finishers will receive a Utah High School Ski Challenge patch. A trophy will be awarded award-ed to the school who tries its hardest to get the most kids racing. Grand County High School students interested should contact Mr. Kurt Roberts for an entry form which must be filled out and returned today by . 5 p.m. All races of the day will be taped by KTVX, Channel Chan-nel 4, and will be shown on a special program April 10, at 6:30 p.m. |
