Show f-f Spotlight on Sport By Don Robinson The complicated playoff system for Utah high schools is becoming more clear even though it remains confused. Moab has won a playoof berth and, as usual, there is a scrambling of the schedule to meet the date. Moab will now play Monticello Thursday (due to the opening of the deer hunt). The following Wednesday, the Red pJii.-!;. Devils host San Juan. The following Satur- ! day, Moab is again host to a representative from Region Five in the playoff game. That's three games in ten days. If Moab ; survives the schedule and the playoff, they ,': would go to St. George the following weelt. s This is the time of year when lack of depth i , . j , can kill you, especially with injuries. Stay-at- rty M home Dixie of St. George only dressed 66 kids yast year for the quarterfinals and none were sophs. The different world of Utah has again taken a giant step backward. After announcing a complete new format for track and field that would bring us more into line with other states, the powers have backed off and said the status quo will be maintained. 1 don't know the entire reason, but I do know that Salt Lake City area coaches bucked the proposal. pro-posal. The UHSAA announced the news last week and said a committee would study the matter. A committee already did and submitted it to a vote around the state. It was approved. The majority evidently does not count. Well, SHUCKS !, I guess I'll go back to writing about autumn leaves. Come to think about it they start out green and turn yellow, too ! I can't remember when the crowd at a football game stayed in their seats at halftime. With good reason they did so last Friday. Never, in twenty years, have I seen such a delightful halftime show at a high school game here. Everybody Ev-erybody concerned should be proud, especially band director direct-or Bruce Negley and drill team sponsor, Mrs. Joyce Victor. That was a dandy. Mayor Winford Bunce, the other day, was waxing eleoquent about what Homecoming used to be like in Moab. His point was made Friday. Let's hope it is the start of a traditon. You can't buy anything with tradition, but memories are treasures we don't soon forget. |
