Show Bl Blackout Over OverMuch OverMuch Much of County Wednesday Moab and much of Grand county was blanked out for 10 0 hours Wednes Wednesday ay night because of a power failure that blacked out everything from Horse canyon canyon can can- yon to Moab Including Green Green- river Thompson and Crescent Junction The break was reported at p p. p m. m and repairs were completed and service restored at a a. m. m Utah Power and Light company officials said Much of this time was required to locate the cause of the power failure It was located four miles beyond beyond be be- yond Woodside Two hillside poles were down and wires had burned apart No cause could be determined for the poles being down officials said but offered a guess that they might have been blown over by a gust of wind t The break was in rugged country country coun coun- try and much time was used in finding it Poles were reset and new wire strung and crews from and Thompson joined in the work A A. passing motorist reported s seeing the flash when the lines were shorted out He tried to re report report re port the break from but was wai unable to get a circuit to Moab toab and came on here to report report report re re- re- re port the location Repair crews had already left here but crews were called out from to pickup the local local local lo lo- lo- lo cal crews and guide them to the scene Moab merchants closed down early after the blackout Some tried to stay open with the use of candles but only a scattered few were able to carry on business Cafes featured cold cuts and sandwiches The blackout caused a heavy flow of traffic through the city as automobile cruising proved to tobe tobe tobe be the only form of entertainment entertainment entertainment entertain entertain- ment available City police reported reported reported re re- re- re ported Thursday morning that everything was orderly durin during the blackout and that no trouble was encountered |
