Show W O HAMMOND NAMED FOR STATE SENA SENATOR TOR Moab loab Legislator Receives En- En Endorsement of Emery San Juan and Grand Democrats W D Hammond of Moab was nom nom- nominated for state senator of the Twelfth dish district let by the DemocratIc delegates from Emery San Juan and Grand counties at a convention held at Provo Saturday S nIght following the DemocratIc state conventIon Mr Hammond was chosen by ac- ac acclamation when his name was presented pre pre- presented to the conventIOn by Fred W Keller of Monticello Emery county s delegation announced that it favored the Moab man s candidacy and would not present a candIdate from that county The convention was compos compos- composed composed ed of eIght Emery county four SanJuan San SanJuan Juan and three Grand county delegates Mr Hammond has served as Grand county s representative to the lower lowerhouse lowerhouse house of the legislature for the past four sessions He has been a very m- m influential member of the legislature and enjoys a very ery wide acquaintance throughout the state At the 1931 session of the legislature he was the Democratic candidate for speaker of the house being defeated by one vote In the past Carbon county was also I a part of the Twelfth senatorial I dis-I dis- dis district The last legISlature however reapportioned the state and Carbon county was granted a senatorial dis- dis district of Its own leaving Emery Grand and San Juan as comprising the theT Twelfth T At the conventIon held m Provo a committee representing all three coun- coun counties counties ties of the district was elected to serve untIl the next senatorIal convention This committee is composed of Glen Gleni i Woodward San Juan Dave Tuttle i Emery and Leslie T Foy Grand |
