Show HOGS HIGHER CATTLE STEADY LAMBS LOWER kansas city stock yards february 16 after reaching a new low point for the season late last week the hog market rallied 10 to 15 cents today this advance is the first strength the trade has shown in the past ten days demand has improved last weeks decline in prices checked the movement of cattle and all markets reported smaller supplies than a weak ago the general trade showed an improved tone but prices were not quotably higher good rains are reported in many sections over the week end they will relieve water scarcity in some localities sheep and lambs were quoted weak to 25 cents lower RECEIPTS receipts today were cattle 1500 calves 9 hogs and 14 sheep compared with 15 cattle 2 calves hogs and sheep a week ago and cattle 1600 calves 16 hogs and 10 sheep a year ago BEEF CATTLE A heavy rain which was much needed throughout the entire area tended to make cattle buyers hold back for a time but towards noon they became active buyer sat steady prices for steer classes and strong to higher price for heffers heifers shipping demand showed increased volume and local killers made liberal purchases in the late trade the general market seems to have reached a price level where buyers are willing to take hold the general movement of cattle Is small for this season of the year and the rains over the week end will reduce shipping from some sections that were short on stock water the best steers here today brought 9 to 10 and others sold at 8 75 down several bunches of heffers heifers at 6 50 to 7 50 were quoted 25 cents higher cows prices ranged from 2 50 to 6 or steady calf prices were unchanged STOCKERS AND FEEDERS the better classes of stockers were fully steady some stock calves were 25 cents lower than a week ago and fleshy feeders sold slowly some heavy weight stock calves sold tip to and stock steers up to 8 25 better classes of feeders brought 7 50 to 8 HOGS A 10 to 15 cent rally in hog prices checked the sagging tendency that has i prevailed in the market for the past ten days prices on last weeks close were the lowest of the year demand today was more urgent both from packers and shippers than for some time past stock pigs were relatively the lowest of the season but light weight fat hogs continued to bring a material premium over strong and heavy weights the to pound hogs brought 7 25 to 7 60 to pounds 7 to 7 sa to pounds 6 50 to 7 packing bows sows 5 50 to 6 and stock hogs and pigs 6 50 to 7 SHEEP LAMBS sheep and iamb prices ruled weak to 25 cents lower than last friday and 75 to 85 cents under the high point of last tuesday the better classes of lambs brought 8 to 8 35 shorn lambs 7 25 and 7 50 and ewes 3 50 to HORSES AND MULES A fairly good volume of demand Is showing in horses and mules at steady nelces |
