Show DEATH ENDS SUFFERING OF PHILANDER 0 DAVIS MAN DIES AT SALT LAKE FOLLOWING LINGERING ILLNESS INTERMENT AT MOAB following an illness of nearly two years duration philander 0 davis 27 well known moab young man died saturday at salt lake city where he had been taken for medical attention death resulted from a condition spreading throughout his body although his death was not unexpected the news that he had passed away came as a shock to his wide circle of friends in grand county mr air daviss s illness commenced about two years ago when he was stricken with what was thought to be a form of paralysis affecting his legs he was taken to specialists at denver and underwent an operation for the removal of a tumor from his spine for a while he seemed to be improving but in a few months his condition again became alarming it then became known that the condition was spreading throughout his body and he was taken to salt lake city where the attention of specialists was again sought nothing could be done to allay the ravages of the disease however and he gradually grew weaker death relieving his suffering saturday the body was brought back to moab for burial arriving sunday evening accompanied by his widow mrs mary davis his mother mrs melissa davis and his three sisters mrs ralph A taylor mrs daisy F taylor and miss bess davis funeral services were held monday afternoon from the woodmen goodmen hall the rev M S metzler presiding A ladles ladies choir opened the services with the hymn abide with me followed by scriptural reading and prayer bv by rev metzler the choir sang lead kindly light the rev metzler was the fart speaker his reni remarks arks being devoted to the future life and the of the reward that comes to those who e lives have been devoted to doing doln good a 1 on this earth as had that of the deceased the choir sang evening prayer after which W R mcconkle gave an address mr air mcconkle mcconkie stated that he be had known philander since young childhood and had always admired the many fine traits of character which he possessed he stated that th m mourning relatives should be consoled bv the knowledge that the departed had lived a life of unselfish cess mess and that he leaves behind a record that is unblemished I 1 the services were closed by a hymn nearer terrer mv my god to thee by the choir at the cemetery the choir sang and waver was offered by the rev metzler ohp orvices were largely attended by sorrowing friends of the family m ir a all of whom accompanied the remains to the cemetery there was a beautiful array of floral offerings philinder oliver dails davis v as bom at moab bober 13 1901 the son of byron bvron and melissa davis the father died about five years yearb ago the young man grew to manhood at moab attending the local schools three lears ago he married mary reed loveridge who survives him the other immediate Ini mediate surviving relatives are his mother mrs melissa davis three sisters mrs ralph A taylor of red mesa colo mrs daisy P F taylor and miss MM bess davis of salt lake city and one brother mervin A davis of moab he ile was a young man of many lovable qualities and he enjoyed a wide circle of friends throughout southeastern utah his untimely death Is sincerely mourned in hundreds of homes the genuine sympathy of the community goes out to the sorrowing widow mother and other members ol 01 the family |
