Show CO OPERATIVE cooperative IS SOLUTION OF FARMERS PROBLEMS SAYS COOLIDGE cooperative marketing was stressed by president in a recent address delivered before the national grange in which he reviewed the problems of the farmer and described as hazardous proposals of a subsidy which he said the american people rould not pay for any length of time mr told farm re presenta alves that any attempt at price fixing on farm products or the entry of the government into business would prove fatal to agriculture assistance necessary to render the co operative effort more effective through a board supplied with funds to demonstrate its soundness in its experimental stage might well be provided by the national government he said declaring that no government ever gave an industry more aid than agriculture has received in this country ae president said that further improvement pro in the farmers condition would come from more scientific production and above all from a wider application of the operative cooperative co principle he further stated that the lesson which has not yet been so well learned is that of marketing that one of the greatest handicaps of agriculture Is temporary overproduction he feels that the most successful method 0 meeting this situation Is through cooperative associations such associations have enabled agriculture in a large way to take better advantage of all the agencies of distribution that this movement Is to unity all the agencies of production distribution and consumption so that they can function as a coordinated co whole which will sell at the right place a the right time this movement toward operative cooperative co marketing is still in its infancy it has sometimes failed through lack of management but it is sound in theory and when conducted in a businesslike way offers the most promising solution to the great marketing problem it avoids any attempt at price fixing or putting the government into business both of which would be fatal to the independence of the farmer and in the end would bring disaster said mr mrs maude A palmer and son ward of monticello spent the weekend at moab on their return they were accompanied by mrs ward palmer and young baby |
