square mile it is interesting to compare utah in this respect with other states fur ther east missouri has an area of square miles baban a population pa aaion of people or an average of 53 people K eople to the square mile new york has 11 an area of square mile a population of or an aver age of people to the square mile and rhode island the smallest state in the union has an area of 1250 square miles a population of people or an average of people to every square mile these comparisons are interesting when we e consider the almost unlimited resources of the square miles of territory called utah one can more fully appreciate what utah can produce by visiting the exhibit on the first floor of the state capitol it is 13 said that the people of utah produce for use at home and abroad between fifty and seventy five separate and distinct products samples of about thirty seven of these are exhibited at the capitol entering from the east ones attention is first attracted by the th beautiful transparencies or colored co ord pictures on glass glass of scenes in the national forests of utah these scenes erl ea 0 or r so arranged and lighted th that at they arc re shown up to a very good d ad advantage van standing before them men it is easier to visualize the vast timber and grazing resources of the state from here on to the west end of the room one winds in and out among cases in which exhibits of utah products are beautifully arranged it I 1 it not possible here to describe them all some of them however are especially Ilecia ally lly interesting on the north wall near the west end of the room there is an exhibit of sheaf and thrashed grain on a back ground of dark green are arranged eight wheel wheels of sheaf grain each wheel has sixteen sheaf spokes with the head heads pointing outward the hub of each wheel is a transparency of some beauty spot in utah each picture is encased in a frame of red top grass the scenes in the eight pictures are the ne preserved specimens of utah grown corn celery cucumbers cantaloupes beans peas tomatoes apples peaches strawberries ras beaves cherries chemes grapes gra s pears sugar beets potatoes alfalfa a MI alla and many oher vegetables and fruits there is in hung above the honey ex 1 hibit a diploma which indicates that utah received a gold medal for her honey and beeswax at the st louis exposition in 1904 it was somewhat disappointing to note that some of the leading products of the state are not represented in the exhibit at all the poultry industry indu atry is nol not represent ted there is no
