Show ' ' OFFICIAL GIVES FLU -WARNING a With reports of influenza cases in Salt Lake City, Dr. T. J. Howells, city health commissioner, Friday 9 caution against common colda which usually precede tha disease. 1 "Though influenza is prevalent in Salt Lake City at the present timet" said Dr. Howells, "there is t no reason for citizena to become alarmed. However, there have been j numeroua cases reported in the last ( aeveral weeks." I Dr. Howells said the first Cases reported here probably were brought from Denver, where more than ! 20.000 cases are reported and city schools have been closed. "Influenza is not a reportable disease," he aaid, "and it is hard for ua to determine to what extent It haa attacked Salt Lake City. A survey of physicians is now being conducted in order to determine its extent here." Every precaution la being taken by the city health department to avert a spread, he said. "If persons suffering from the flu.' or common colds, would go to bed and have Immediate treatment, treat-ment, the danger would be lessened considerably." Dr. Howells asserted. "It Is the person who has the 'flu' and continues to work and associate ' with other people in public places that opeoa.de the disease." Symptoms of the "flu" are about the same as colds, .according to Dr. Howells. |
