The action pf the board of governors ef the Commercial club In withholding - from the public the report of the com-y com-y rnlttee. appointed to investigate the charges made against the street railway rail-way company was followed up today by a self-explanatory letter which the governors gov-ernors sent to Dr. J. C. E. King, chairman chair-man of the investigating committee. Letter to the Committee. The letter la as follows: Dr. J. C. E. King. Chairman Committee ou Street .Car Service; Ser-vice; Salt Lake City. Dear 81r: I have the honor to Inform you that the report of your committee was received and considered by the board of governors at a special meeting held Tuesday evening, January 27, 1903. I am directed by the board to extend to you and through you to the committee of which you are chairman, its earnest thanks for the thoroughness with which you have discharged the duty assigned you, and to express its high appreciation and approval of the wisdom of yout suggestions sug-gestions and recommendations. I am instructed in-structed to say for your information that the withholding of your report from publication pub-lication is in all probability temporary and in line with the well-established policy pol-icy of the club in such matters, which is to remedy, when possible, any public evils without unduly advertising the existence of thrsame. Holmes, president -of the club, said this morning that the club would hold another meeting Tuesday . night at which the matter of publishing the report would be considered. "At our last meeting, when the report was. considered, . we discussed the- advisability ad-visability of making the report public," .- said Col. The company is making improvements all the time and what improvements It has made have been of a substantial and lasting nature. . It has been handl-v handl-v .capped in many respects. Like everyone every-one else, the company did not foresee the rapid growth Salt Lake has had. and, therefore. Is not prepared to handle the business satisfactorily. - "I suggested that orders be placed now for equipment that will be needed next year and expressed it as my opln- Ion. as a railroad man. that the salaries of the employees should be "raised so that the company could command te . best of help.
