It went' up by bounds, until $3.75 was reached, and although a host of anxious "buyers lingered on the open call, none seemed willing to go above that mark; 1500 shares of the stock were releasedthls morning. The closing of operations at the Ben Butler sent that stock down from T to 5 cents,' but after one sale of 1000 at that figure, it recovered somewhat, and In three successive sales of 1000 each ft had again reached C cents. Daly-Judge was inactive today, releasing only 180 shares, 175 at $10.40, and five at $10.45. Daly West, which was hammered fiercely yesterday, also escaped attacks today, only twelve shares being sold. . Wabash was strong, and showed an advance of nearly 2 cents over yesterday's yester-day's close. The opening and lowest sale was at 28 cents, the last and the highest high-est at 28. California sold 1000 at 2 and 500 at 26, and closed with the former figure bid. Little Chief, for the first time In several days, refused to release any shares. The close In this stock was bid and 7 asked. The total volume of business was again far belpw the average, the amount of the transactions being $865L50. Con. Mercur took a sprint, and during the selling of 800 shares, advanced from $1.71 to $1.73. Daly West dropped 50 at $39.25, and 25 at $39.10. May Day re- leased 100 at 17 cents, and Silver Shield parted with 1500 at 6 cents, i South Swansea sold 600 at 18, then dropped 2500 at 15. and 100 more at 15 cents. Uncle Sam sold 100 at 24, and Valeo released 500 at 12. GASOLINE HOIST FOB COMET. The Imperial Mining company, which owns the Comet mine, yesterday placed an order for a gasoline hoist of thirty-four thirty-four horse-power, which will be sta tioned at the Comet property at once. The other necessary equipment will also be ordered, and all preparations for the systematic opening of the mine will be made. Operations, it is thought, will be commenced before spring. ENGINES FOR THE MAJESTIC. Two of the gasoline engines recently ordered by the Majestic Mining company com-pany reached Milford yesterday. They weighed 24,000 pounds. One will be placed at the Old Hickory and the other at the O. K. group. Each of the Majestic Majes-tic company's groups will be equipped electrically at once, and more vigorous operations will be commenced. The Tonopah Bonanza In speaking of the Montana-Tonopah mine has this to say: "Some splendid ore was being hoisted from the Montana-Tonopah shaft on Friday last, but the main body of the mine was encountered by the night shift. The shaft Is 458 feet deep. "Six assays prove the lowest value found to be $380.08 per ton, with the others running up to the highest, $692.48. A magnificent feature of the Mizpah ores is carried out in this, that the gold proportion of the value ranges from $130 to $241 in gold to JJie ton. "Within the past ten days Montana-Tonopah Montana-Tonopah stock has been ruthlessly hammered down, for no visible reason. The ground is the nearest of all mines not owned by the Tonopah company to the big Mizpah fissure. Ore and bullion settlements yesterday amounted to $80,100. The Sacramento will distribute its usual $5000 dividend February 1st. The Engineering and Mining Journal reports sales of Horn Silver In New York last week at $1.50 per share. Treasurer. Henshaw of the Majestic returned yesterday from his first visit to the camp after discharging the December De-cember payrolls. Capt. "Jack" Donovan, the former Salt Lake policeman who made his fortune for-tune in Klondike, - has landed In New York after a trip to Ireland. Manager Splro of the Little Bell states that the shaft Is now down close to the 500-foot mark. M. M. Johnson, manager of the Cfctus, returned from that property last night and left this morning- to visit Boston Consolidated. . . Additional men have been put to work at the Dewey mine In Deep Creek. The initial shipment of ore from the Lost Packer In Custer county, Idaho, has been started to the smelter. J. A. Czlzek was last Saturday made general manager of the Lost Packer. The Taylor-Brunton company received re-ceived eight cars from Stockton, three from Tintic, and one from Nevada today. to-day. 3 ' 1 WILD BILL STRIKE; MOSCOW SHIPMENTS Secretary B. S. Rives of the Wild Bill Mining and Milling company this morning morn-ing received most encouraging news from Manager G. 8. Hayes, who is now at that property. The latter states that a vein of ore rich In lead and silver has ' been encountered at the 200-foot level, and that within this vein is a streak eighteen inches wide which is phenomenally phenom-enally rich. - At the Moscow mine, also owned by the Wil Bill company. Manager Hayes has begun the shipment of the dump, consisting of between 150 and 200 tons, which, according to a report made by Dr. Talmage, will average $20 to the ton. A shipment of this ore will reach the city shortly, as Mr. Hayes has a number of wagons now hauling It from the mine to the railroad at Milford. BEN BUTLER CLOSED. Manager A. L.
