Show NAVAL TUG WRECKED PUB1N0 DENSE FOG. Leyden Goes Ashore Off .Slock Island and Is a Total Loss. . WASHINGTON) Jan. 22. The Navy department de-partment yesterday received the following dispatch from Observer Day of the weather weath-er bureau: "The Untted States naval tug; Leyden. from Porto Rico to Newport, Wells commanding, com-manding, with thirty-three men, went ashore og a rock off Block island at 12:30 p. m. today. High water thirty feet, dense fog. Nine men came ashore in boats, stove to pieces, the men landing safely; others, twenty-four officers and men, being be-ing taken off with breeches buoy. Probable Proba-ble all will be saved. Tug absolutely total to-tal loss." The Leyden was of the largest type of naval tug, schooner rigged and of 450 tons displacement.
