Show GOV. FERGUSON PUTS BAN ON BLOOMER GIRLS - GUTHRIE, Jan. 17. Gov. Thompson Thomp-son B. Ferguson of Oklahoma has set down his official foot on the use of bloomers by girls who attend the Territorial Ter-ritorial educational institutions. Last month one of the Schools narrowly escaped es-caped a scandal, it is said, through a game of basket ball, played by the young ladles of the school In bloomers. The matter was brought to the ears of 'the Governor. Regarding the bloomer Incident he said: "The bloomers must go. While I am in a position to do so I will see that our institutions do not., countenance such apparel. I believe In the young women and the girls getting as much good as there Is in physical culture and athletics, but it is going too far when the young ladies of the Territorial schools get out in an apparel such as is worn by the 'Boston Bloomers Baseball club.' an aggregation that has traveled extensively over the Territory the past season. "It is not right that they should be the subject of ridicule. The girls are not to blame. It is the school and the parents who countenance such things that are at fault. It is an injustice to the young girls. "I have notified the heads . of the schools that there is to be no more basket-ball playing by Oklahoma's daughters daugh-ters In bloomers." |
