Tommy Mulligan of the seventh grade was absent from the classroom for the entire (Viy, It would appear that he had played truant, for unknown to Tommy his teacher had spied him trudging homeward with pockets bulging bulg-ing suspiciously when fhe too was homeward home-ward bound that afternoon. But Tommy brought a note of excuse the next morning, which of course would prove that be had hn detained at home legitimately. The writing was hardly that of a feminine hand, and the note appeared to have been written laboriously la-boriously and with much blotting; furthermore, fur-thermore, the penmanship seemed strangely familiar to his teacher. The note read as follows: "Dear teacher Please excus Tomy for not comelng to shool yestiddy. he cud-rot cud-rot come. I tore my pants. "MRS. MULLIGAN.' |
