Show DISGUISED FORGER DECEIVED MERCHANTS Man Who Posed as Driver of a Coal ' Wagon "Cashed Small Checks That Were Fraudulent. A man masquerading as a coal-wagon driver victimized a half-do'zen merchants last Saturday night and cleared about J73 In merchandise and money. ' The man, who was attired In a suit of dark working clothes, and whos features were plentifully smeired with coal dust, purchased merchandise to the value of $12 from Rowe & Kelly's furnishing store, tendering a check 'or $20 In payment. The check was made cut to W. H. Nolan, and was presumably presuma-bly signed by Williams Bros. Cal company. com-pany. The man's appearance deceived the cashier, who cashed the paper. Another check for $7 was also pa?sed at O'Reilly's furnishings store. Both were drawn on the State Bank o'. Utah and were clumsy forgeries. At. leart a half-cTozen other checks were cashed In various saloons on the same night by the alleged coal-wagon driver. The matter was reported to the police, who have not yet apprehended the forger. |
