Show ICE TRUST UNYIELDING Press Club Fails to Secure Se-cure Souvenirs for "Uncle "Un-cle Tom's Cabin;' ; Owing to the unyielding attitude of the ice trust, the Press club has been forced to abandon one of the features anticipated anticipat-ed ,for its production of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" at the Salt Lake Theater next Tuesday " evening. There are so many other good features, however, that this one will not be missed. It was proposed to give each person who attended the show a neat piece of ice as a souvenir to be placed on the mantel at home. These souvenirs were to be of the exact slse given by the ice man when the housekeeper house-keeper Is not looking, and could be conveniently con-veniently slipped into a pocket. The ice trust declined to make any reasonable price on such cakes of Ice, and the idea has been abandoned. "Nevertheless and notwithstanding." there will be plenty of ice for Eliza when she reaches the Ohio river In her flight from the bloodhound. There will be icebergs ice-bergs and ice cakee and lemon ices. This crossing by Eliza will b a thrilling thing. A. L. Lovey will play the part of Eliza and Councilman T. K. Black will be Eliza's baby. The fact' that the baby weighs three times as much as Eliza merely adds to the suspense of the moment. mo-ment. Instead of giving away cakes of ice, the Press club will give away souvenir programmes. pro-grammes. These will contain pictures of the members of the cast, biographical sketches tening of the dark spots in the careers of each, and a great deal of other matter intended to be humorous. The fact is, the entire production Is designed -to be humorous. A great many new lines have befn inserted and three-fourths three-fourths of the Ipld ones eliminated. Songs, dances and other specialties have been interpolated. The names of a number of prominent men are taken m vain. Some citizens of distinction have consented to Join in the fun, and be auctioned off as slaves, to distribute programmes and water wa-ter and to rent opera-glasses. A collection collec-tion of doge to serve as bloodfcounda is being made. The country is being scoured for unique features for parade and performance. There will be some original songs, and any number of "gags," largely ot local application. The cast of principals Is as follows: Little Eva JJn 8. Cckchlow Uncle Tom John D. Spencer Topsy Tod Goodwin Aunt Ophelia B. S. Young Eliza A. L. Lovey Eliza's baby T. R. Black Phlneas Fletcher ....George E. Carpenter Marks (a lawyer) E. C. Penrose Simon Legree Arthur W. Copp Auctioneer Cape I. M. Barrett A vicious rumor has been started to the effect that John S. Critchlow was secured se-cured for Little Eva because he was six feet and some Inches tall. -The Press club wishes to brand this as a despicable falsehood. Mr. .Critchlow was secured because be-cause of his great histrionic ability. A proof of this will be his performance nexl Tuesday evening. ' |
