Show HOT TIME IN JOPLIN Fear of More Bloodshed in the Excited City in Missouri. t r JOPLIN, Mo.. April 16. The excitement excite-ment that ended last night In a mob lynching Thomas Gilyard, the negro murderer, and the shooting at several negroes and the firing of their home?). Is still intense today and further bloodshed blood-shed and damage to property is feared. Many negroes are selling their belongings belong-ings today and leaving town. Tonight it is said another mob will demand the release of Hickory Bill, a town character, char-acter, who was placed in Jail last night. A member of the mob said that they will wreck other negro shanties and drive out what blacks may yet remain. This afternoon the Mayor issued a proclamation calling for 500 men to p:o-tect p:o-tect life and property. There are several hundred strangers in the city and a report is being circulated circu-lated that several hundred others from Pierce City, where a fierce race war occurred oc-curred over a year ago, will come to Joplln tonight and assist in the extermination exter-mination of the colored population.
