Hyatt, who has come from i St. Louis to Salt Lake to. take up his residence and carry on the' work of the J . weather bureau, is a prophet who Is a V wise prophet Indeed if judged by the f standard "that by hia works la man "to known." Y For three days he has been looking thirty-six hours into the future and V. forecasting the weather, that the people, peo-ple, f Salt Lake might know if the . morrow had sunshine or showers in store. And lo. It has come to pass that his prophecies have been good. What he said the weather would be, it has been - and the people are pleased. Monday morning he sent forth from his rooms on the sixth , floor of the Dooly building wherein are the many instruments that assist him In "making "ma-king weather," that Tuesday would be fair and that a rise would occur in the temperature. The forecast was correct. The day was fair, indeed, and when the sun reached the senlth the mercury had cllmbd the glass sixteen degrees higher high-er than on the previous day. I Tuesday morning the prophet again applied his learning and from his wisdom wis-dom emanated the prophecy of another j perfect day with " still rising tempera- ture. The day was perfect and the ther-mometor ther-mometor registered higher temperatures tempera-tures Wednesday. At 4 o'clock it was recorded that the temperature had increased in-creased to 66 degrees; and Slay 13th. went down Into history as the warmest day of that date that has been experienced experi-enced in Salt Lake since records have bejn kept of the daily temperatures; and then warmest day so far this year. Thus with the coming of the new forecast fore-cast official a record was established and one broken. A weather man had prophesied correctly twice in succession and May 13th had been warmer than any of the previous days of this year. Yesterday this man of the weather bureau. let "his prophetic instinct wander wan-der into the dim future and return and by his words the people knew today would be cooler. . Thus will he continue to ponder and prophesy and the public will be warned to the shade when "old Sol" contemplates contem-plates the display of his might or to the fireside when Jack Frost starts from the north on a Journey o'er the land. , And they m ill be apprised of the approach of gentle xephyrs in the heat of summer or of a sunny day , the midst of winter. |
