Show REV. MR. EDDY ON VOICE OP THE DESERT. The Voice of the Deeert" was the subject sub-ject of an address given by Rev. Frank Fay Eddy at Unitarian hall yesterday. In part he said: " "To many natures the call of the wild is real and .emphatic, especially in the early springtime, when plant life bursts forth In riotous profusion. It is a call to cast off bonds and customs and to become be-come a child of nature, to revel in the wild primal things. "But there is a call of the desert that ks nobler. As one rides hour after hour across the desolate wastes of the great arid region every strong soul feels the Impulse to conquer the conditions that make these wide acres a lifeless, treeless solitude. It is the call to endeavor. It Is an eternal challenge to the high courage In strong men's souls. In hours of relaxation relaxa-tion we love the lily and the rose, but the misshapen cactus and the hardy. Indomitable Indom-itable sagebrusn are, too, deserving their pean, for they are emblems of the soul of man that Is unconquerable and capable of all sacrifice." |
