Show Ya Dont Don't Have to Be an Ace 1 j Junior Golf Team Matches Set By Bill Coltrin Development of junior golfers long a subject of much conversation conversation conversa conversa- tion but little action will really get under way this year if present plans work out as hoped With the thought that every youngster not just the thc hot shots de deserves erves a chance to play on n a team and to Win a prize a committee was formed Friday afternoon to outline plans for the season Out of this meeting meeting- came three things 1 a committee of adults was named to take over this junior golf gol development 2 a date and a pi place nee were ere set for a meeting of all young golfers and at this meeting a junior golf assoc association will be formed ormed with its own officers and constitution and 3 tentative plans were vere outlined for fora a series serles of team matches between the various clubs of the state with at least 20 young young- golfers on each team The meeting to set up the junior golf association will be held April Apri 18 at 7 p pm p.m. m at the Forest Dale Dae clubhouse The adult committee committe composed of Les Leg Bennett chairman Walt Owen Tom McHugh Don Plath Hack Miller and Bill Coltrin Collrin will be on hand to take charge I until the youngsters get et their own o organization org I These team matches will wiH ill be something something- a little different Each cour course p. p will wm ill have a man four-man team for each week of the golf season Matches will ill be he played with ith the rival course teams and a R regular schedule will be he drawn up But in order to let ever everyone one play on the team team team-or or at least more than a hall half dozen or so the so-the the kids playing the first week will vIll be ineligible for further play until the entire man 20 I team has had a chance at competition That arbitrary figure of 20 nay may be changed to accommodate con con- I If there are more kids at each course wanting wanting- to play on a team the membership of the teams will be increased The idea of cours is to let Jet everyone have hn a chance to compete on a rather equal basis and a all have an equal chance to win a match Besl Besides es these team matches plans are arc being laid f r wide state tournaments each month with the players sorted out according to ages and handicaps And naturally the big junior open again will wiIl be beheld beheld beheld held to name the state champs for fr the year Bennett immediate past president of the Utah Golf pointed out that the Ule junior association will start off with more than inthe inthe in inthe the bank TIl Tins This s amount is in the Utah Golf earmarked for Junior golf golC development and when the youngsters get an association the money will b be theirs to handle Naturally cooperation cooper from all aU golf clubs will be required but butI conversations with individual members and pros from the various I J I courses indicate that thai th the backing will be per cent These team team when play pla matches will wiH be played on Monday londay mornings morning generally is light at the courses And the matches will involve ol only eight kids four four from front the home course coure four foul visitors 1 I the season sUon and the club A running ng score will wm be kept throughout i with the grand championship team will receive a suitable trophy j |
