Show Teen Age Club Challenge Accepted T OTHERS has been a lot of talk about teen age clubs as a possible solution to the juvenile nUe delinquency problem R Recently The Telegram co commenting en ng editorially on a letter from a young r reader read read- ader ad- ad er suggesting such uch a club for Salt Lake City said maybe we ought to pick up the gauntlet this youngster has thrown down downto to us Now it seems that the gauntlet is being picked up The project for a night club or recreation hall hail for youngsters beten between be be- tW ten tween en the ages of 15 and 19 has been put forward by local Y YMCA MeA M C A and Y YWCA W C A groups The latter organization has offered offered of of- ered Use use of its ith gymnasium for the club Students at the three city high schools have been contacted contact d and a committee has been formed to see if the project can be carried through Under the proposed plan the club would be open to teenagers teenagers teenagers teen teen- agers after school hours with facilities for games games' and dancing Salt Lakers are asked to donate games furniture decorations etc How successful such a club would be is a question no one can answer positively in advance They have proved very successful suc sue in some other cities Certainly it seems worth trying If teen-age teen boys and girls of Salt Lake City are sufficiently interested interested interested in in- to promote such a recreation center for youngsters th the least we adults can do is give them a hand If it is a success ss it should prove of real value in combating juvenile nile delinquency And nd even if it fails at least leas we will have given one of the most highly recommended solutions ons to a serious problem a fair trial |
