M Steward one of the oldest I and best known assayers in the city I died at o'clock clock this afternoon of heart failure in his office West Second Second Sec See ond ond South street No one was wi with him himat himat himat at the time of his death and his body was as found a few minutes later by y John Newton an old employee of Mr Stew Stew- ard The body was in a no na natural tural reclining position on a heap of soft coal in the back room of the assay office with the head pillowed on piece of yellow cheese cloth folded Into a small bundle bunie In the soft coal dust under the feet were tracks which Indicated that thet Mr- Mr Steward bad suffered severely se and gone into convulsions before dying Mr Steward had been in ill-health ill for some time Coroner Morris Sommer was summoned summoned summoned sum sum- land and pronounced the death due to io heart failure The last time Mr 1 Steward was seen alive was about noon noon w when shen en he called on William Wllliam A. A Hodges at his assay office office of of- fice lice across the street on Second South Early in the morning Mr 1 Steward had stepped into Mr Hodgess Hodges's office to ask if Mr Newton had been around He needed him to help him A lot of hand samples of ot ore had been brought in by Will Lawrence and Mr Steward said he dd not feel able to crush the ore him birn self Mr 1 Hodges offered to do the crushing and Mr 11 Steward replied Well Vell I don't dont know if I could do it anyway Im I'm rathar under the er Mr Steward was 52 years old and leaves a wife and one son Tucker who is a student In the high school Mr 11 Steward has been in the assaying business business busi busi- ness in Salt Lake for more than fifteen years and has been considered one of the most expert metallurgists in the State |
