There is an awful slump h 11 entertainment this week J The Sunday afternoon audience picked George Lyons and Bob Bol osco as the This team received a lot of g applause and made a big abig big hit One and a few other big vaudeville audeville acts and you will realize its limitations The act drags in places and is idiotic in others A woman supposedly ft f wealth and influence is robbed in her home such an occurrence in real J life e 7 1 Jj p l There is a lot of worthless no nonsense sense between a police reporter if d a cub that is IS wretchedly done and should be stricken out l' l It Jt doesn't imitate the life of newspaper men at police stations in y degree and only bores the audience The sketch could be improved im im- im- im proved roved a great deal by eliminating this ridiculous bosh Mr Ir Granville is a clever young actor and is ably supported by Miss 1 Pierpont but you couldn't conscientiously say much else good about the act i The show gets a miserable start Joe Shriner and Doll Don Richards Rich Rich- ards in Bits of Nonsense open the bill Mr Shriner might be fairly entertaining if he lie were alone Bert Levy a former newspaper news news- f I paper aper artist of New York who has been seen many times over the i Orpheum m ci circuit with his rapid sketch act is as good as ever He lIe receive any ny recognition at all yesterday ye y a afternoon how how- ever el Either the audience was thinking all the time ab about ut having to tb pay the same price for six acts that audiences on the coast were paying for eight acts or it wanted something new At any ate rate it withheld its applause from Mr 11 Levy Marshall l Montgomery ventriloquist came next He fared vorse 1 worse than Mr lr Levy did He was a positive frost until his time had nearly run out then he lie did some very clever work His whistling stunt was good If he lie would cut out the attempts at comedy in the first place and get down to his business of ventriloquism ventriloquism ventriloquism he would confer a favor on his audiences The show closes with a good act The six whirlwind dancers execute executes s some me difficult and novel steps If you can forget last weeks week's show maybe you can enjoy this one ine ne I Lab f. f to r c HE PRICE is too much Going to the weeks week's new play at att atI t T I the thc Utah theatre is very much like going under Dr two hours in inthe i Ethan Bristol's surgeons surgeon's knife or passing the he dentists dentist's chair As pres presented by the Mack Rambeau combination Jion ion tion and associate players it is about as slow moving a vehicle as has ever rumbled over the boards Broadhurst's play at best is a dark brown dissertation on Moral 1 and unusual Life ife upper case with a Problem and a some I r f epigrams and philosophical sayings There is no element of cheer in the piece much less comedy but last nights night's audience almost split its sides chuckling and chortling particularly during the thc most tense and emotional scenes Combining the performance of the audience and the performance of the players the play was everything everything everything every every- thing but a success L Perhaps the sole trouble is that The Price isn't for the Utah stock tock company compan There is no questioning that the week vill be a dull one for the Utah theatre Yet Miss Marjorie Ram- Ram Rameau Rameau IVill peau eau outdid herself last night as Ethel Howard Scott was as Professor and Mrs 1 Lillian Rambeau I not have better portrayed the character of Mrs Dole Miss l leanor Haber did well wen as Florence Forence Bromley F g Individually the players were good as a company they gave play that should have passed away as did Stanard tole Dole in the first act act of of heart fa failure lue V.
