"SO IN LOVE" Friel's Record Bar Ranger Reports On Snow Depth On Hobble Creek Shed Snow depth and water content on the Hobble Creek-Diamond Fork watersheds is far above average av-erage for the past 10 years, according ac-cording to Merrill Nielson, forest ranger. Snow measurements made on March 30, showed a snow depth of 48.8 inches with a water content con-tent of 18.2 inches. The average for the past 10 years is 38 inches of snow with a water content of 11.62 inches of water. This is 6.58 inches of water more than the last 10 year average. The Hobble Creek-Diamond Fork snow course is located on the summit of the Pumphouse Ridge between Hobble Creek and Diamond Dia-mond Fork watersheds. The ele-vatiion ele-vatiion is 7300 feet. The abundance of snow on the north slopes on the elevation of the Hobble Creek watershed constitutes con-stitutes a potential flood hazard. A rapid rise in temperature together to-gether with spring rains will cause rapid melting of the snow and create extreme high water in Hobble Hob-ble Creek and Diamond Fork. The snow measurements were made by Grant Williams, asst. ranger and Rulon Gull of Spanish Fork. The trip to the snow course was made by truck, horseback and a 10 mile hike on snowshoes. More than 2,000 flights, aggregating aggre-gating 75,000,000 passenger miles and 10.000,000 cargo-ton miles were flown by the Navy's Fleet Logistic Support Wings in the last half of 1948. |
