Show Springville To Enter Track And Field Men In Invitational Large And Colorful Y Relay Carnival Expected To Draw Over 3500 Participants During Annual Event Coacli Art Hughes and his Springville Red Devil track and tennis stars will he one of tlie many entries in the forthcoming forth-coming ft Y. U. Invitational Track and Field Meet and b -SRelay Carnival, Friday and Satur- day at the Y stadium. More than 3500 boys and girls are expected to participate in the meet, with applications from the various schools in the intermoun-tain intermoun-tain west. A full program of ' activities has been slated for both Friday and Saturday. The senior high school tennis matches will open the competition com-petition Friday at 9 a. m., with final rounds slated for Saturday. The junior high school girls' posture pos-ture parade will be held at 1:30 p. m., with track and field events for junior high school boys and girls scheduled to begin at 2 p. m. The junior college tennis championship cham-pionship tilts will start at 8:30 Saturday, with high school A and B semi-final and final matches set to begin at 9 a. m. A highlight of the big meet will be the all-around events which will get underway at 9. a. m. Saturday. Sat-urday. Immediately after this event, the prep track and field trials will begin at 9:10. A flag raising ceremony will open the Saturday afternoon program pro-gram at 1:30 p. m. This will be the signal fof both track and field competition to begin. The first special invitational event will be the 100-yard dash. It is scheduled sched-uled for 2:05 p. m. The meet will have world-renowned stars to compete in the special invitational 100-yard dash. There will be Lloyd LaBeach, colored col-ored sprinter from Jamaica, who has run the 100 in 9.4, and Bill Martinesen, former sprint star from Baylor University, who has already run a 9.6 century this season. sea-son. Featuring the special invitation javelin throw will be Dr. Steve Seymour and Martin Biles, two of America's top Olympic prospects. Seymour has a record throw of 248 feet. This event is slated for 4 p. m. Springville's stars are expected to make a good showing in the meet. |
