Show Late Summer Wedding Unites In Marriage Miss Harmer and Mr. Clegg NEW LADIES LITERARY PRESIDENT ELECTED At a business meeting held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Salisbury, Mrs. Madge Thorn was elected president presi-dent to succeed Mrs. Jessie Dal-ton, Dal-ton, and succeeding Mrs. Hannah Callister, who has moved to Spanish Span-ish Fork, Mrs. Julia Snmsion was elected vice-president. Mrs. Emma Jacobsen is secretary secre-tary and Mrs. Minnie Groesbeck is program chairman. At the conclusion of the meeting, meet-ing, dainty refreshments were served. ARIZONA WEDDING UNITES YOUNG COUPLE Friends in Springville will be interested to learn of the announcement an-nouncement of the marriage of Kathleen Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Miller of Geneva, Gen-eva, Nebraska, to Alfred Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Reynolds Rey-nolds of Springville. The marriage took place at Yuma, Arizona, August 2, 1940. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds will make their home at 106 North Dillon Ave., Dillon Apartment 104, Los Angeles, California. 4-C 4-H COOKING CLUB MEET AT DIAMONDS Members of the 4-C's 4-H cooking cook-ing club met Friday at the home of Eudean Diamond. They spent the afternoon cooking, cook-ing, with the meeting under the direction of President Marian Oakley. A delicious luncheon was served serv-ed by Mrs. Diamond in conclusion. MARION OAKLEY HOSTESS TO 4-C's 4-H CLUB Miss Marion Oakley was hostess hos-tess to members of the 4-C's 4-H club at her home Tuesday afternoon after-noon at 2 o'clock. The girls cooked a breakfast under the direction of Leaders Leona Wilson and Marion Aver-ett, Aver-ett, with President Marion Oakley in charge. Present were the following members: Carol Beardall, Beth Averett, Evelyn Gottfredson, Ra-Nae Ra-Nae Johnson, the leaders, Leona Wilson and Mary Averett, and the hostess, Marion Oakley. NOVEL KIDS' PARTY PLANNED FOR GLEANERS Members of the Third ward Gleaners will be entertained Tuesday Tues-day night at 7 o'clock at the home of Beth Kindred, announces Clara Harmer, Gleaner class president. A novel kids' paTty is being planned, complete with costume, and will be carried out according tb the pot luck Idea. All class members are invited to be in attendance. DANCING CLASS TO HAVE SWIMMING PARTY Members of Majorle Childs' dancing class are invited to participate par-ticipate in a swimming party Tuesday Tues-day afternoon at -3 o'clock. The girls are to meet at the park with bicycles, a lunch, and money for swimming. An interesting nuptial note of Springville society this Week is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Naomi Harmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis E. Harmer, of Mapleton, to Reed L. Clegg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Clegg of Provo, which took place Saturday, Sat-urday, August 17, in the Salt Lake Temple. The ceremony was performed by President Stephen L. Chipman, in the presence of'Mr. and Mrs. Luke Clegg and Mr. and Mrs. Dean C. Boyack. A wedding breakfast break-fast at the Lion House followed immediately. That same evening approximately approxi-mately two hundred guests honored hon-ored the young couple at a reception recep-tion held in the lovely summer garden at the Harmer home. A profusion of flowers and summer shrubs illuminated with artificial lighting made a charming background back-ground for the reception. The lovely young bride wore a beautiful gown of deep pink taffeta taf-feta with blue velvet trimmings, and pink rosebuds were in her hair. She carried a bouquet of white gladioli and deep red rosebuds. rose-buds. Her bridesmaids, Erma Hol-ley Hol-ley and lone Nielsen of Maple-ton, Maple-ton, and the matron of honor, Mrs. Berniece Woffinden of Le-land, Le-land, sister of the bride, wore formals in pastel shades. Their corsages were of orchid sweet peas and talisman roses. Others in the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Harmer, Mr. and Mrs. Clegg, and Dean Boyack, Boy-ack, best man. Mrs. Harmer chose black taffeta taf-feta and Mrs. Clegg wore a pink chiffon gown. Both wore corsages of white sweet peas and pink rosebuds. rose-buds. During the receiving hour string music was played by Miss Phyllis Smart, accompanied by lone Averett. Aver-ett. Mrs. Lucille Harmer of Provo was acting hostess, and Mrs. Le-rea Le-rea Dallin of Springville, Mrs. Lucy Ronndy, Mrs. Algea Mack-ley, Mack-ley, and Mrs. Ross Ellis of Maple-ton, Maple-ton, had charge of the serving and gift rooms. The following" girls, who also wore pastel formals, served: Marie Ma-rie Clegg, Ora Nielsen, Maxine Harmer, Madeline Roundy, Evelyn Eve-lyn Mackley and DeEtta Woffinden. Woffin-den. Reed K. Clegg of Salt Lake City, was introduced by Dean Boyack as master of ceremonies, and the program was as follows: A reading by Elaine Brockbank; vocal duet, "Sweethearts," Max Mendenhall and Thora Whiting, accompanied by Mary Bird; an accordion ac-cordion solo, Mary Bird; reading, Lillian Binks; solo, Max Mendenhall; Menden-hall; violin selection, Phyllis Smart, accompanied by Virginia Bird; and a vocal duet, "Wedding Bells'," by Glen Holley and Freeman Free-man Bird. Many beautiful gifts were received re-ceived by the young couple, who will make their home at Provo. Both have attended the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university, Mr. Clegg being a member of the 1939 graduating gra-duating class. MRS. BIRD HOSTESS TO SNIPPER-SNAPPER CLUB Members of the Snipper-Snapper club were entertained Friday afternoon af-ternoon at the home of Mrs. Eva M. Bird. The girls spent the afternoon cutting out dresses and sewing. In conclusion refreshments were served to Norma Whiting, Coleen Binks, Dorothy Larsen, Mrs. Eva M. Bird, and Arlene Wblting. STAKE M. I. A. TO FETE WARD OFFICERS Stake M. I. A. officers will entertain en-tertain at a social for all ward officers and teachers Tuesday, September 3, in the Art building. The social will begin at 7:30 and will feature a good program and a luncheon will be served. |
